Arty Horror recommendation time. High brow movies only. Don't disappoint me /x/.
Ok, I will start then while other people are posting selfies of themselves and talking about the flat earth.
I think Under the Skin is one of the best movies of the past 10 years or so, not just counting horror movies.
Why is this thread not moving to the top?
Not horror, but /x/ worthy
Does Jacob's Ladder count?

August Underground: Mordum
Don't know if you could even really call it artistic, as it's mostly just shocking, but it's by far the most disturbing film I ever seen.
>>17835802
Also - what is this? Love the cover. Is the film any good?
>>17836762
>Is the film any good?
Yes, it is: weird, but good.

Kwaidan is wonderful. I still get shivers just remembering the closing of the Ghost Wife story.
Kinda slow movie, but powerful.
Contribuiting to the thread, I can recommend Tarkovsky's Solaris.

That scene on the beach with the baby - how was that not horror?
Horror can be creepy and unsettling. It doesn't have to be jump scares and chainsaws.
>>17836762
It's Under the Skin starring Scarlet Johansson. You're probably best watching the movie blind.
>>17837376
And saying that is just another way of telling us you're retarded.
bump
>>17837464
How is he gonna watch the movie if he's blind, retard
ITT: everybody posts, nobody watches
>>17837470
What's wrong faggot, offended? Do I need to do an interpretive dance to apologize?
Did anyone else like Lars von Trier's Antichrist? It was kind of cool.
>>17837530
Doesn't sound like I'm the offended one, buddy.
>>17837524
I'm planning on watching Perfect Blue and looking into August Underground and Coherence.
I've seen the rest.
>>17837565
Considering its text, you don't sound like anything
>>17837419
dis nigga knows whats up, here's a trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqbJHbP61PY
also, for a film considerably more horrific film, by the same director:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR6NeM3-wOE
>>17835776
Oh, I love that film! I saw it in the mid-nineties on BBC 2 and became a bit obsessed with it.
Anyone posted Begotten yet? probably....
>>17837582
This is what jumped into my mind.
>>17835776
Possession (1981). Don't be fooled by the generic sounding title, it's not a generic horror movie. Try not to watch any trailers or anything, just go in blind.
>>17839203
I've seen it....I kind of hate it to be honest. The acting is like the entire cast is stuck in a fever dream.
>>17839223
Well, to each his own I guess. The surreal acting is part of the reason I like it so much. I believe Isabelle Adjani won best actress at Cannes for it
>>17839203
Is that Sam Neil? Looks interesting
>>17839269
Yes, it's Sam Neil

In the same vein: The ugly swans. Closer to horror. Letters of dead man is good, too.
La Cabina
Short, but deeply disturbing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKkfGG9q32c
Has anyone mentioned 'It follows'? One of the best horror films, or any film, I've seen in years.
I also enjoyed 'Possession' which I interpreted as a metaphor about the obsession and toxicity of romantic relationships.
'Lake Mungo' also impressed me, slow but chilling.
>>17837475
Does that count as artsy? I mean it's a good well written horror movie but is it artsy?
>>17835802
hipster garbage. Can't believe you said it's one of the best movies of the past 10 years. Way to shit all over other horror creators that actually put effort in. There are other movies out there where way more effort has been put in to them. Under the Skin is extremely simple and looks like a very easy movie to think of and make. Hell.. blockbuster horrors such as Insidious beat Under The Skin hands down.
People like you fall for this kind of crap so easily. It's like modern art where it's just something extremely simple and easy to do. It's crap.
Here's what you need to do to make Under The Skin:
Long camera shots of something, such as a person driving or walking. Shots that go on for minutes is far more easier than actually doing multiple shots.
Hardly any dialogue whatsoever (saves the writer actually using his brain to think of something).
Extremely basic story. Woman walks through place and kills men.
Fished. Are you telling me that this is better and more intelligent than many other horror movies out there? Ok ok I get there's deeper (not very deep at all) meanings behind Under The Skin with Scarlet understanding what people are like and all that crap. But come on! It's pretentious bullcrap.
>>17836762
>mordum
>>17837536
It's comfy.
>>17840755
OP has Scarlet Johansson's tits on their side. You may have already lost this argument, breh.
It Follows is great
>>17840755
Damn dude it's just someone's opinion. Calm down.
>>17835776
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SleNgbCjjiA
Artsy and sort of horror related. It's more psychological and trippy than anything else.
>>17840755
Jeez, what a tard you are.
There's nothing wrong with long takes and sparse dialogue, and you must be a moron if you need constant yapping and cuts.
See also tarkovsky movies.
>>17840755
You should try the book of Under the Skin. You might be the only person in the world who thinks it's better than the movie.
Loved under the skin
>>17840891
Sorry to dissapoint but she is wearing a bodysuit in all her "naked" scenes, thats why her body looks kinda off. The only part where she shows her actual (bodypainted) ass is at the end
Being that said, Under The Skin is a shit movie
Enter The Void is not horror, but definetly /x/ tier.
the remake is good too if you dont like subtitles
>>17837504
This movie fucked me up.
The director's other work is also great, although I don't think any of it belongs in this thread (maybe Paprika).
Contributing cuz I've been blest with some good recommendations on here:
Martyrs
antichrist
the skin i live in
deep dark
old boy
haute tension
blue velvet
>>17839223
i had the same reaction when i first saw it. but i found out that the bad acting is intentional, they're supposed to be projections of what each other envisions the other to be like, not they're actual selves. there are instances where they play themselves for real like for example the scene where adjani is teaching kids ballet. i cant remember others because i havent seen it in years but it's one of those films that has made a very lasting impression on me
pink socks
>>17841961
It's definitely intentional, but I still find it off putting.
>>17841552
I'm going to check out deep dark.
>>17837536
Antichrist was nice
Melancholia was a bit fucked up
