I can think of three very strong influences on every person that ever lived the sun, the moon and earth.

Planets are in charge of everything, astrology in big in hinduism which is the oldest religion of the world (3400 years) every problem or issue that we face are influenced from planets, each planet represents different aspects of our life. Any issue that we face can be traced through our birth chart and the planet positions and we can get relief. Planets are the agents of karma and past life karma. It is their job to enforce the karma good or bad on us. As for signs and symbols, they are a tool to change things, which may also fall under planetary influence, people with Saturn as their main planet or going through Saturn phase will have great interest in occult and magick.

That's not the concept that runs through hinduism with relation to astrology.

What Hindu's believe is that the body is contained within the soul, just as all of the universe is contained within the space of the mind (The space of the mind being the fuel for which we perceive and interpret the external universe, internally and neurologically)

Hindus believed that a map of the external universe was a symbolic image of the universe internally at the time of our birth. It has nothing to do with innate influence of a mystical and karmic nature. Karma simply means "your own doing", which again, reinforces the notion that the external universe is an extension of you, yourself.

My physics teacher in high school always wondered why people never did studies on the moon's effects on pregnancies. He believed in moon-cycle type horoscopes because he believed that the moon's pull might have had slight effects on the development cycle.

Its more likely he was a wacko.

Yes, astrology is one of the oldest pseudosciences.

Early civilizations looked up at the night sky and realized they could be used to predict when to plant crops or when the floods would come, or when the snows would fall.

Then they made the mistake of going too far with it, and started making a bunch of bullshit predictions that had nothing to do with it.

They don't. What those early civilizations were looking at were simply the seasons of the earth. The planets have no effect, only the Earth's revolution around the sun.
