I've got PTSD, I have nightmares pretty much every night and it makes me feel depressed and anxious when I'm awake. It also makes me stay up all night so I can avoid going to sleep.

Any /x/ methods of controlling my dreams/nightmares? This is actually ruining my life.
>>
therapist.now.
>>
>>17777195
Been there, doesn't help.

They're like... just meditate and b positive :) Which doesn't stop the nightmares.
>>
Well, I wish I could help, since a friend of mine is in the exact same position. Do what the first anon said and get therapy. Make sure you don't have sleep apnea or anything else. Listen to or watch calm and relaxing things before bed. Try taking a hot shower before you sleep.
>>
What do you have PTSD from?
>>
>>17777200
A real therapist, not some third-rate hippy.
>>
Lucid Dreaming. Look it up.
>>
>>17777207
>real therapist

>real
>theRAPIST

I tried PSYCHOtheRAPISTS once, I even went to a psychiatric clinic, would not recommend; primarily in that most academic educations don't actually teach them how to cure anything. They just get taught to pigeon-hole the unique nature of your 'problem', then throw drugs at you: oh and btw, most of the drugs they prescribe are shit anyway.

OP, you'd be better off trying to find an acidhead/psychonaut, or at best a genuine shaman, to assist you.

Science is nothing is not toxic and anti-human-life.

You're an idiot, please leave while the adults are talking.

Don't listen to him. A good therapist really can work wonders.
>>
>>17777254
>if not
>>
>>17777258
>A good therapist really can work wonders
You mean an actual person who cares? Have you actually taken a psychology course at an accredited university? Most of them are shit. This says nothing about the good ones.
>>
>>17777258
nice argument, bud. good to see you have no substance and can only resort to name calling.

I did go through several therapists; and all they did was have me relive unpleasant moments and nominalise my personal experiences with what effectively amounts to buzzwords. (also HUEtarded questions e.g. 'If you were an animal, what animal would you be?')

I did several psychedelics after leaving the clinic, and each trip was infinitely more useful in personal-self-discovery than the mumblings of some pseudo-intellectual. For fucks' sake analysts actively say they don't attempt to influence their client -- the academic, non-neuroscience, approach to psyche-health is mostly fucked.

The only reason """"""""""""good therapists"""""""""""" can 'work wonders' is 'cos they have a natural intuition ..... a knack for helping people (often because they come/came from a different field and thus don't believe the currently popular bullshit; a good example is Virginnia Satir)
>>
>>17777281
>opening argument is shitty theRAPIST meme
>cries about namecalling
>another worthless junkie

Yeah nah, get outta here, kid.
>>
>>17777290
Responding to namecalling with namecalling shows that you're a faggot. Whereas that anon never directed their "insult" at any specific person, you did. Literally fuck off. If you want to stand there and argue that mental health isn't a fucked up industry, go ask for a lobotomy from your local physician.
>>
>>17777290
>not understanding that humour eases conversation
>projects that I was crying (how ironically freudian), despite my deliberate use of casual tone
>continues with namecalling, thus proving my point you have no actual substantive arguments
>unable to conclusively refute my posts
>literally just evading the issue

Still no argument bud, good to know you've learned how to use the quote function (I remember when I was new too), hopefully -- someday -- you can contribute something of value to this thread.

Returning to OP's question, I'd recommend you investigate/familiarise yourself with the works of Dr. Richard Bandler, he's definitely got something up your alley.

Cheers

Set aside some time every day.
Lay down on your back. Get comfortable, you must not move.
Find a single static image to imagine, learn to hold that image for as long as possible in your mind.
After a few minutes your body will test you with random itches, the urge to turn over, or the urge to move your legs. These will go away, you must not move, this will disrupt the process.
Do not listen to music.
Do not have the television on.
Do not allow yourself to day dream or fantasize.
Try to remove all distractions and stimulus as best you can.
Your mind must be still, like an undisturbed lake.
After around 20 minutes of this you will see strange images, and hear noises that are not there.
You must ignore these, do not acknowledge their existence.

Enjoy what comes next, you will know it when you reach it.
>>
>>17777245
>most of the drugs they prescribe are shit anyway.
Did they prescribe any any ssri's? because those have helped me a ton with anxiety and insomnia.
>>
Fuck everything these people say and listen. You need to make your brain fight unconscuously. You need to change your fight flight or freeze from freeze because thats what it is.

Start imagining every tiny obstacle in your life being fought. Or think constantly about running away from a situation. So walk around about ready to fight and walk around ready to flight. Size everyone up think weird shit

Then in your dream you might fight back or run. The more you walk around and can confidently say "i can beat that person up" or get away from that guy the better ur dreams will be

Walk around with a gun and feel the power... honestly if you could feel that confidence in your life dreams turn into adventures.
>>
>>17777354
You act like it's so simple, anon. I fight shit all the time in my dreams, but it isn't so easy for everyone. Each person dreams differently.
>>
I am not even joking in the slightest bit when I say this. Go to Amsterdam, buy mdma, sit with a therapist while on 120mg, then tell them everything.

I laid in bed and tried to picture a love heart, my mind would VERY quickly throw random images in but i'd continue to picture a loveheart

I fell asleep and had intense long dreams, though not a nightmare, and I woke up 2 hours later thinking I'd slept for 5+ hours

I did it again and slept for like 4 hours, again strange intense dreams but not a nightmare

Pic unrelated
>>
I accepted my nightmares after I was done with their shit every night.

Night after that I had a dream of going to the pub drinking with all the monstrosities I've met.

That was about 10 years ago.

Never had a nightmare since.
>>
>>17778189
I tried that but it didnt work, just more nightmares.

Glad it worked for you man, they can be relentless and energy sucking.
>>
If you have PTSD from deployments, been there I understand, you most definitely have to talk it out , I didnt believe in that shit either man, but its just a matter of accepting that they can help and believing it can work.

This, to a lesser extent.

Just say a little prayer before going to bed, ask for the nightmares to stop or for you to understand why are they occurring. Once that happens they'll probably stop if they have to do with your subconscious, or if they have to do with entities you can ask god (or something you believe in, maybe an historical figure like Ghandi) to remove all negative influences from your life.

Be honest and persisten and you will receive help.

PS: There's lot of people studying treatment of PTSD with MDMA, I would definitely recommend you try at least Psilocybin mushrooms, they're way safer (imo) than any SSRI you could get. And they will do more than just make you "numb" to these experiences, they will make you work with them to have traumas and shit worked out
>>
>>17777188
What you want to do OP is re contextualize your fears unto something that you can overcome.

Here's a good method to deal with the nightmares.

Start writing. When you wake up from your nightmares write it down on a notebook and then share it as creepy pasta here in /x/ make a little story from the nightmare (as coherent as you can make it out to be, dreams are abstract of course, but you can fill in gaps with your writing).

This will do several things:
1. you will be able to face your fears by remembering it as you write it down. This will give you a direct look unto what is that you fear or just experienced in the nightmare from a safe space (awake) so you'll slowly start overcome that feeling of powerlessness that comes from throwing fears and bad experiences under the rug.

2. You will be able to re contextualize the story by filling in the gaps and allowing yourself to be more in control of the story line.

3. If you do the above two creatively and honestly (best you can) you might even become a little bit of a shitty /x/ celebrity and might start to look forward to going to sleep and experiencing an adventure. Notice how it would go from nightmare to adventure, because now you will feel more power over it and know for a fact that you will be okay no matter what happens. That will come with practice.

Best wishes anon.
I do recommend this method.
>>
>>17780126
I agree with this anon. Reach out if you need help. There's plenty of us here who've been there.
>>
>>17777188
I have 3 kinds of advice, one practical, one esoteric and one kinda strange.
The first thing i'm gonna say is in my opinion the most important one, sure try all the solutions that other anons posted here if u thing they will help but alongside all that, a very easy and simple thing, talk to God.
It doesn't matter if u are religious or not, if u are an atheist try to reconsider, din't use any " canned" prayers or complex rituals, just talk to him an explain what troubles if u want, just ask for help.
2. Fight the nightmares with your libido, yep it's better to be horny than scared, just before you go to bed think about your favorite fantasy or your favorite porn scenes u know the drill ;)

And finally that might be useless to you or less effective, it depends on your childhood's background but nevertheless it deserves a try,
Get a mantra anchor, a mantra anchor is the mechanism that makes rote prayers effective for some people. If you know or learn a particular prayer it doesn't matter which (prefferably one that was taught to you as a child if possible) and repeat that everytime you feel scared or anxious, then sooner or later it will be adopted by your subconscious as a defense mechanism and u will be able to use it even in nightmares.

That's all i have i really hope u get better doon.
>>
brush your teeth/tongue before you go to sleep

What you have achieved is a very mild form of Yogic Nidra.

The intensity of the dreams is part of the process. With every attempt you will be able to hold on to more and more of your conscious mind as you go into your dreams.

With time, you will be able to remain fully aware and conscious in dreams, thus the nightmare issue will become a non-issue.
>>
>>17781862
this can be problematic... sometimes I sleep and I feel like i'm conscious the whole time, but not dreaming.. can get uncomfortable..
>>
get use to it ? i know it sounds stupid ,but there is going to be a point that stop scaring you. i dont have nightmares anymore , i mean i get this creepy shit going on but most of the time i control the dream (i guess thats what you call lucid dream) so most of the time when the monster is doing something creepy i "change the channel" or something i just try to get along with the monster in my dream.

example i used to dream alot with the ju-on(grudge) ghost alot. she would scare the shit out of me ,stare and then kill me and that kind of shit ,but now everytime she appear i just ignore her and most of the time it works

try with controlling your dream or what they call lucid dream
