Greetings, and welcome to The /x/ Files, the weekly news digest for 4chan's Paranormal board. Every Sunday, we take a quick snapshot of the mysterious world around us and bring it, in an easily readable magazine format, to the board. I am The Editor, the anonymous creator of this idea and collector of the news that will be following below. In the interests of legitimacy, I will be using a secure tripcode to post the thread; once the posts are completed, I will take the tripcode off and return to my anonymity.

A couple of news stories about bizarre animal activity, and a potential major archaeolgical find. Plus the weekly Coast to Coast roundup, the Podcasts list, and a special shoutout to...gumbo? All this and more, in Issue mothafuckin TWENTY NINE of The /x/ Files!

Australian town is invaded by 100,000 bats

Batemans Bay in New South Wales has become so overrun that a state of emergency has been declared. Bats can be unnerving at the best of times, but imagine trying to go about your business while there are scores of the notorious flying mammals covering every square inch of every surface. This was the spectacle that confronted residents of Batemans Bay in Australia recently after more than 100,000 grey-headed flying foxes descended on the town en masse.

"I can't open the windows, I can't use the clotheslines," said local resident Danielle Smith. "It's just, I can't study because the noise just goes constantly. I can't concentrate. It's not fun. The bats came and they are just out of control. We just can't do anything because of them."

Bizarrely, this particular type of bat is actually considered to be an endangered species meaning that authorities are only permitted to use non-lethal methods to deal with the problem. One such tactic has involved using smoke and loud noises to deter the bats while another has seen areas of vegetation being chopped down to force the animals to move on from the area. Ultimately though it may simply be a case of waiting for them to leave on their own accord.

Woman stalked by swarm of bees

Carol Howarth was shocked to discover that a swarm of 20,000 bees had followed her car all the way home. The 65-year-old had been driving home from a visit to a nature reserve in Wales when, having parked her car in Haverfordwest town center to do some shopping, she returned to find that her vehicle had become covered in a heaving mass of the insects.

"It was spectacular. I was driving through when I spotted the big brown splodge," said park ranger Tom Moses who stopped to offer his assistance. "A lot of people were really amazed by it, cars were slowing down and people were taking pictures of it."

Eventually Moses, along with two beekeepers he had called in to help, managed to safely remove the creatures from the back of Mrs Howarth's car so that she could get back in and drive home. Incredibly however, upon awaking the following morning, she discovered that the swarm of bees had followed her all the way back to her house and had once again settled on the back of her car. "One theory was that the queen was trapped in my car and the swarm were following," she said. "But they couldn't find the queen anywhere so I've no idea if that was right."

This time beekeepers were able to permanently remove the bees without them coming back. "I have been beekeeping for 30 years and I have never seen a swarm do that," said Roger Burns of Pembrokeshire Beekeepers. "It was quite amusing."

Aristotle's lost tomb possibly found

The long-sought final resting place of the Greek philosopher has possibly been unearthed at a site in Macedonia. Considered by many to be the world's first true scientist, Aristotle was born in Stagira in 384 BC and died at the age of 62 in Chalcis, Evia. A student of Plato's Academy in Athens, Aristotle produced writings on a plethora of subjects including logic, ethics, biology, physics, poetry and linguistics. He was originally thought to have been buried in Chalcis, but despite extensive efforts to locate his tomb the exact whereabouts of his final resting place have long remained something of an enigma.

Now though, following an excavation that has spanned more than 20 years, archaeologists have announced that they have finally found what they believe to be Aristotle's tomb within the ancient northern Greece city of Stagira - the philosopher's birthplace. The tomb, which consists of a mounded dome and marble floor dating to the Hellenistic period, is situated in the center of the city and appears to have been designed for public viewing. An altar outside the tomb, along with a path to the entrance, would have provided visitors with the opportunity to pay their respects while a selection of artifacts, including ceramics and coins from the time of Alexander the Great, indicated that the tomb had been well frequented and maintained.

The find has been described as the most significant at the Stagira site in more than two decades.

Blurry Photos Podcast: The Winchester Mystery House

Time to build a mystery with Blurry Photos as Flora and Stecco take a tour of the Winchester Mystery House! An immense complex of twisting halls and odd architecture, the Winchester Mystery House was the strange conceptualization of the reclusive heiress Sarah Winchester. It now stands as a tourist attraction, but during its construction it attracted plenty of attention as well. Doors to nowhere, stairs to ceilings, skylights for skylights, the house is a twistedly-built structure with weird aspects, but why was it built that way? Could it truly be haunted, as legend has it? The boys detail the life of Mrs. Winchester, the ins and outs of the house, and try to parse fact from fiction. Bring the breadcrumbs along, you don’t want to get lost in this episode of the podcast!

Hey, I made gumbo. Then I made a thread about it.

What a lot of you don't know is that I'm a huge cooking nerd, and that /ck/ is the other board I call home. Like /x/, I don't tripfag there unless I make a thread, but yeah. I made a big ol' pot of chicken and Andouille sausage gumbo this afternoon, taking pictures along the way, and put a thread up about it. You can go check it out at >>>/ck/7725810
