Simple example, buddhists in meditation activate the frontal lobe of the brain and exhibit patterns associated with happiness. Disabling this part of the brain will lead to depression.

But from another perspective, what if mental states are dependent on certain substances, and if you don't have them you will not feel it.

A broadcast will only effect those with latent despair in them.

I thought the despair code was some form of chaos magic. If you dig deep enough into the workings of the universe you basically realize that there is no great plan, god or meaning its just all random accidents that just happen for no reason which in turn saddens you because humans always try to find meaning of our existence and when we find none it makes us nihilistic and depressed.
