pretty good game, don't know why the creator dismissed all the praise. He hasn't been noted for anything before or since. I can see why somebody who made that game would want to fade into obscurity though.
>>
looking for good horror game that can be played in a car on a laptop (no physical mouse and no high end video card). Even a flash/browser game as long as it's good.

Just finished necronomicon game , it's a great game but if you don't like tactical card games and aren't in to Lovecraft you might not like it.

For desktop I recommend the DEAD SPACE series played in order. It plays on you psychologically with the clausterphobia and is a good mix of occult and aliens and is often plain distgusting and jump-scary, kind of like living in a horror movie. Small RPG type elements with upgrading equipment and crafting.

eh whatever, i just cant stand fallout 3, 4 or NV despite having played the second one, they just feel too empty, too bland, too boring, too amateurish, the NPCs and enemies feel like mannequins instead of poorly coded characters, the weapons feel like they dont have any weight behind them, i dont know how to describe it but i could boot up stalker SOC right now and have fun trying to start a war between my men and the soldiers near the base, loot the entire place, sell everything and reload until sid stocks the tunder 5.45 to move onto the rest of the world, yet if i try the same in new vegas, the only one of the trilogy that is actually worth a shit according to you guys, i cant even get past springvale or whatever your starting town is before i get bored and just start dismembering that sunny girl, put her armless, headless torso in lewd positions and fap to her athletic ass and tits

I actually thought for the "new" team silent, Homecoming had the best story line too. But they just had to go and fuck things up.
As for Downpour, it still had the shitty combat system and fucking repetitive monsters. The overall story was meh. It let most hardcore Silent Hill fans down... because American team silent doesn't listen to the fans anymore. And now Konami hates team Silent.

System Shock 2.
I always play it with a Jedi Knight of sorts character build: psi powers and lightsab...I mean Laser Rapier related skills.
I would love that one day someone would invent a psi amp (pic related) that, at least, can reduce neural/brainwave interference, thus allowing us to develop and manifest psionic skills easier and better in non-lab conditions (aka real world).

This
Amnesia is better because lack of "combat"
>>
>>17645709

>>
/x/ essentials:

Yume Nikki
Silent Hill 1, 2, 3
Resident Evil
System Shock 2
Eternal Darkness
Clock Tower
Alone In The Dark
Sweet Home
Penumbra and Amnesia
Cry of Fear
Eternal Darkness
Scratches
Dark Seed

Everybody go play Scratches please
>>
>>17649387
Amnesia is worse because of lack of "combat".

Without the ability to fight back it literally boils down to:

>Hear spooky music
>Run and find nearest hiding spot til it stops
>Repeat until credits roll

It literally saps any suspense and tension from what would otherwise be an interesting and atmospheric game. There is a reason that survival horror games let you fight but make it difficult. Without it it becomes a walking simulator with irritating interruptions where you have to stare at the inside of a cupboard for a few minutes every so often.
>>
>>17649397
I'd agree in most cases, but Amnesia made it work. It gets old really fast but the first time I played Amnesia with no expectations, I was legitimately scared, partly because I was expecting weapons and because I had never played anything that felt the same.

NOTE: I also love horror games with combat, but the combat in Penumbra it literally made you stare at poorly animated dogs for 20 minutes before it felt worthwhile to go on. It took away the entire experience.

Homecoming just did some really unnecessary stuff like putting in Red Pyramid without any contexts or reason, but it's a SH title so we gotta do that. The bosses did have some really fucking cool designs, but it pushed the viability of combat too much for it. It felt like it was trying to be a Res Evil SH title and it fucked up on that hard. Part of what makes the original games so great is the shit mechanics when it comes to fighting because it makes you want to run rather than fight and use weapons as an absolute last resort. Outside of the original trilogy I like Origins a lot and Shattered Memories was interested because it tried some new stuff and focused on the psychological elements a lot more.

It really depends on what ending you get for Shattered Memories some are definitely weaker than others. What was nice about Shattered Memories was the fact that it brought shit from the sessions into the town. 2 is not exactly like that because it really is more based around James dealing confronting his own shortcomings through physical manifestation. They are similar of course and I still think that 2 is the better game but of of the titles released after the original 3, Origins and Shattered Memories are my favorites

I think FROM do the best enemy and boss designs of any current dev. They manage to make them genuinely horrific and disturbing. Its some fantastic mix of cronenbergesque body horror, elements of HR Gigers necronimicon with metal and bone fused together and good old fashioned spooky skellingtons and ghosts, all combined to make shambling horrors and spasmodically moving entities that you fear to engage. The fact that everything can kill you very easily in soulsborne games plus the fantastically atmospheric level designs add to the dread and tension.
I think souls games have picked up the mantle where the survival horror genre left off

If Del Toro ever actually gets the chance to make a game before the project is kill I think he'd create equally impressive if not even more impressive creature designs. I agree though FROM has put out some really impressive designs across their games. I wouldn't say they've quite taken up where survival horror left off but they do some amazing work.

"Byrgenwerth... Byrgenwerth... Blasphemous murderers... Blood-crazed fiends... Atonement for the wretches... By the wrath of Mother Kos... Mercy for the poor, wizened child... Mercy, oh please...
Atonement for the wretches... Lay the curse of blood upon them, and their children, and their children's children, for evermore. Each wretched birth will plunge each child into a lifetime of misery.
Mercy for the poor, wizened child... Let the pungence of Kos cling, like a mother's devotion...
Curse here, curse there. A curse for he, and she, why care. A bottomless curse, a bottomless sea, source of all greatness, all things that be. Listen for the baneful chants. Weep with them, as one in trance. And weep with us, oh, weep with us.
Listen for the baneful chants. A call to the bloodless, wherever they be. A call to the bloodless, wherever they be. Fix your ears to hear our calls.
... Ahh, sweet child of Kos, returned to the ocean. A bottomless curse, a bottomless sea. Accepting of all that there is, and can be."

Del Toro certainly has an eye for it, no doubt but its Wayne D. Barlowe who is responsible for all the fantastic creature designs you see in Del Toro films and particular style is his signature.

Yeah I just meant Del Toro it terms of visual design direction. What kills me is the fact that if we did get Silent Hills that would have been Del Toro and Junji Ito collaborating which would have been fucking amazing to see. I'm still hoping that since they were both interested in working together under Kojima that Kojima will revive that idea with a new project under his company at some point.

P.T. was - literally - a playable teaser. It was made to make fun of all the cliches going around in horror games at the time, and to show off the stunning graphics.

Silent Hills wasn't going to be anything like P.T., and unfortunately all Allison Road is gonna do is try to imitate P.T.

Man, I really hope Del Toro, Kojima and Reedus are actually working on Silent Hills. Maybe even with a different name.
>>
>>17649735
>>17649570
Wait, Junji Ito was gonna work on that?
I'd read that somewhere, but promptly forgot about it because I'm a fucking goldfish.

Goddamn, now I want Silent Hills to be a thing even more. Junji Ito made some of my favourite horror manga (from the most obvious ones like Gyo and Uzumaki to one of his short stories called Balloons - god that one scared the crap out of me for no adequate reason.)
>>
>>17649633
He obviously referred to the first part of the post
>>
>>17649735
I still feel a small shred of hope, they did meet up a while back even after it was cancelled. Especially hope Ito is still on the team, couldn't care less about Reedus though.
>>
Ecco the mothefucking dolphin.

Nobody will ever be able to convince me that this is not a horror game.
>>
>>17649762
yeah he was brought in for consultation at least and it sounded like he was interesting in actually doing some design stuff. Del Toro fucking loves Ito's work so he was really psyched about that too. I really do hope that collaboration does happen. Ito is one of my favorite horror manga artists too and i wanna see more collaborative stuff with him like that pokemon set he did as a halloween thing.

Going out of your way to make a race joke about a game unrelated to the topic of thread woule be considered edgy. Contributing to the thread with a paranormal themed game is not. How could that be unclear?

And upon reclaiming the fort urist mcghost is still wandering the hallways, admiring a fine engraving of cheese in the statue gardens.

Ive enjoyed every single Silent hill game ive played and I agree. Downpour had some really cool segments. I like the story overall more than the gameplay.

Sadly downpour didnt have much variety in enemies, but being able to go all over the map was neat. And the few sequences with the energy shit following where cool too.

The rollercoaster was the best part tho.

I have!

While the controls and some things from the game can be considered dated it was really atmospheric, from the mood to the OST. The gameplay aged well for the most part too. It also had one of the most detailed gore systems which was a selling point.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMugxzoPf4M

The levels where you found human corpses were very unsettling since all you do is fight monsters through, but then realize that there were a few lives you couldn't save. Can’t say it spooked me a lot as a child but it certainly had an impact. But moments like the ship covered in blood full of corpses did terrify me (That was from India docks as well, as if the music wasn’t bad enough).

I’d argue Nightmare Creatures 2 was more creepy and unsettling, although I never managed to finish it because fuck emulation.

The franchise is under rated but sometimes I see small posts about it on /v/ that warms my heart.

This game was great, it had CO op in the same TV and the hability to hurt the other player both slowing him down and taking some of his life plus the story is a parody of terrible horror films
We never finished but had hours of fun just messing with it

Having a dedicated Mario button was the best idea I ever seen on A Mario brothers game.
The way Luigi would scream Mario's name with a more frightened tone depending on how scary the room was made it all the more amazing

Both 1 and 2 where awesome games, but I prefer the first somehow.

Still, awesome game. I played on my PC with my cousin. Nervous laughs where had.

>tfw they scrapped the third installement to do this shit that no one played.
>>
>>17667307
What the fuck is that?
Hotels died with last generation tho. With PC being its saving grace, I outgrew videogames mostly and can't even run current gen so I'm pretty satisfied with my videogame experience, I'm sorry for kids that grow up now with Hollywood business models for games tho
>>
>>17667455
What is "hotels"?

My last console was a PSX, and I dont really feel bad for it.

There are some few exclusives that I wish I had played in some gens (Gears of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, etc...) but not enough to justify buying a console solely for this purpose.

MOst of the games I play today (when I have time to play) are usually games that I can play a few minutes, and resume another time, like Project Zomboid among others.

I would love to play Arma if there was a community in Hueland for it.

Still waiting for Left 4 Dead 3 by the way...

It will be ready on the second semester of 2017, I guess.

Not hyped for that anymore desu.

Good luck to Valve for trying to make a hero that dont speak sell well in a world where AAA games appears every 6 months.
>>
>>17667505
half life 2 wasn't even that good
the graphics and atmosphere were nice I suppose, but the controls were too stiff and the gunplay was horrible
>>
>>17667516
It was OK for that time I suppose.
I was giggling all the way while playing with stupid things I was founding in game like the fact thet the glass windows would shatter just the right ammount you shot, or the water reflections and so on.

Also, the NPC companions had a high level of immersion even for today's parameters.

I enjoyed and placed that game high, even after all these years.

But if they dont come with something really good today, HL3 will be the last HL ppl will be interested.

I bet that thing will be open-world.

I've tried so hard to find some get horror horror games on android. But most seem to be jumpscare driven. There are some atmospheric puzzle games though.
>>
>>17669682
*good.
>>
>>17669682
Yeah, this is a problem;
I dont mind jump scares as long the story is good or at least, somewhat immersive.

Im now playing a point and click on Android named The last Door: Collector Edition and its cool so far.

Is a post apocalyptic "choose your destiny" type game. It wasn't what I was expecting so that kind of colors my opinion a bit but the game play is weird.

>White Day

Remember that cult classic Korean game? Well it's been remade for android.

>Dark Meadow

Never got around to playing this one but it got lots of good reviews when it came out.

There are a couple more that look interesting but I can't really vouch for them. I haven't really been playing as much as I use to, and I've stared to listening to podcast instead.

I have a 3DS and was wondering what some good /x related games would be that I could get for it without doing flashcarts or homebrew.

I know Corpse Party is supposed to be coming out in the States sometimes this summer, I'm really looking forward to it. But otherwise all I got to choose from I think is some Ghost Camera game that looks like a Fatal Frame knockoff and your average shovelware-looking stuff, muh haunted mansion, muh Agitha Christie shit. Kinda hard to sort through the shit.
>>
>>17641422
It was a good game but people jerked off over it wayyyy too much, like even bringing any other horror game up, would somehow turn the discussion into an Amnesia thread. And then it became the Pewdiepie game later on.
>>
>>17645415
That game was a masterpiece, when you are out in the wilderness exploring, it makes you feel like you are really 'in the shit'. Oblivion's towns and quests were pretty good too though, like when I broke into this guys house and found out he was a vampire, that made me jump lol.

Also the dungeons still spook me to this day. Something that only Morrowind and Oblivion, to a degree had. Skyrims dungeon's were always just the same thing pretty much, bandits, spiders, and Draugr or whatever the fuck they were called. Dwarven stuff and Snow elves were a nice touch, but still no where near as good as the other games.

Duskwood is the shit, guess I just love it because it reminds me how every adventure game from 90's to early 00's had a "Spooky level" (PS2 Frogger anyone?). I saw someone remade that whole zone on Unreal 4, you should check it out.

Could someone help me find a game that I've seen screenshots of but forgot the name? It's a PC game, Russian maybe I think? Anyways its set around Victorian era I think, and iirc it is about some kind of virus that spreads. I seen one screenshot of it that showed this black monster humanoid in the street, and the filename was "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT.jpg".
Also I think you were allowed to pick different characters? It was First Person had HP bars similar to Morrowind's too.

Wait, really? I downloaded this a couple months ago because I thought their test game Wintertale was interesting, but honestly it kind of drags and gets boring and has so many anime character cliches that it hurts.

I think I left off somewhere around day 2. Is it really worth continuing? (and yes I have the hentai patch)
>>
>>17663744
There was a sequel, kind of.
It was based off The Blair Witch Project but you still play as an agent of Spookhouse and it featured many characters from Nocturne, used the same engine and was made by the same developers.
Neither of the sequels to that game made any references to Nocturne though, so it seems like they decided to stop using Blair Witch games as sequels to their own properties at some point.

Before this thread goes completely under, I need help.

Someone brought up a game in one of these threads before. It was more of an online social meetup game, where you had your own customizable avatar, and it was in first person perspective. The graphics were 3d and while it wasn't intentionally creepy, as the poster described it, "the deadness of the severs make it creepy."

There were also some actually creepy aspects of the game, like noclipping yourself out of a certain map results in a pair of eyes and teeth chasing you down and respawning you back into the map.

It was just some shitty secondlife kind of game with music rooms and shit, but I just cannot remember the name and it's killing me.

Also, Myst was spooky to me as a kid, due to the isolation of your character. Stoneship made me the most uneasy since I have an irrational fear of ambient oceans, thanks to Super Mario 64

>>
>>17675289
No, it's worlds. I even found the video that an anon linked when he brought it up. This shit's really surreal. Like I said with Myst, the isolation factor is a big reason I find it unsettling. LSD is another perfect example of it.

>>17675315
I just lurked some videos on youtube about this game and them went to their website to get info about the company, board of directors etc.

Is sad to say th least. Their stocks is worth 1 cent. The max it was worth was 5 cents.

There is no update on the news session since 2009.

This game is a complete failure but somehow, they dont pull off the plug and let it die.

Also, the engine is at least 20 years old. I remember playing MDK with better graphics that that.

I feel genuinaly sad for this. Imagine the shit it must be to open a company, invest time and money on it and ppl are not interessed on what you have to offer.
