Hopscotch did it. Time travel was not involved.

Wut you do is have a creature made of assholes appear befpr ypur protagonist and give him the time machine. Each time the protagonist travels in it, he grows an extral asshole. It gets to the point where he is covered with assholes and travels back in time to give his past self the time machine.boom endless cycle

"Finnegan's Wake" to name the first one that comes to mind. Futurama also did an emptied involving time travel like this.
