Demons can't just linger around being scary. They have to possess someone or something, like a pet. The house does sound like it could haunted. Or it could also be rodent infestation. Dogs can hear them moving in the walls and it freaks them out.

The dog thing I would just chalk up to it being in a new environment and needing a period of adjustment.....if it wasn't for the dishwasher thing.

I'd try the typical advice of burning sage and cleansing. The important thing is to let whatever it is know that it's not welcome. You got to be all "Bitch, this is my house now"

I am absolutely not a specialist, but you must do something to appease the spirit(s?) in your house. Try to explain that you didn't want to annoy him/them, and then do something about it.

I am convinced spirits can be wonderful friends or people to discuss with. They have a more complete experience of life... and death.

If indeed what you describe happened, try looking into the poltergeist phenomenon. Basically means you are mad as hell about something and the house gets it. Hell, as long as there is no one else to witness this with you, the entire thing can be just in your head.
