As someone pointed out, the part of the sea where it was supposedly lost (if I'm thinking of the right flight) was also used in Man of Steel. Someone speculated that when they asked people to look for debris in that area using googlemaps they were using that focused attention for magic. That was the most interesting thing I heard. Oh yes, and in the film "Dazed and Confused" there's a globe with a land-mass in that area of the sea (just off west coast of Australia).

Let's not forget that at some point after losing contact, the plane apparently flew almost like a fighter jet in low altitude.
My take:
1/ the same technology that is used to control drones has taken control of the plane and it would be top secret.
2/same concept but here we have a group of people or country showing that they can take over a plane remotely and do whatever they want with it. If public knew it, they would freak the shit out and god knows what else.
For that matters, after 9/11 many planes were added some sort of remote control system to override pilot control.
