Joining, no I'm not that desperate. Starting one, sure but I want a good goal in mind like a world revolution of the proletariat against their captive overlords. Like Marx with juice.

>starting a cult with an ideology in mind

The only good excuse for starting a cult is a very specific and practical purpose, which really equates to just scamming someone or another at the end of the day.

On that movie, was the little girl trying to tell everyone that there will be a happening soon or something?

*spoiler alert*
She was building something using Legos
She wrote terrorist on a girl's backpack
She's wanted by people from the future etc...the movie didn't end.

Not yet but maybe someday if the right one comes along...BD sex cult could be fun .... Maybe
>>
I have like a dozen people who are weirdly codependent on me as well as a lot of wacky dream and delusional material that comes from basically being psychotic, and even a "God" of sorts in the form of a mindform. It wouldn't convince anyone to join that isn't already weirdly codependent on me, but I mean, it's actually kind of hard to keep my current relationships from becoming a cult by accident in some respects. I have a couple people referring to me as "Great Dragon" and I didn't even ask them to.
>>
I don't know if this counts as starting a cult, but there was a time when there were about 15 or so people who wouldn't refer to me as anything other than "the Alpha Cabbage", and it was really annoying. I tole ONE person about something that happened in a round of prop hunt involving a purple cabbage, and all of the sudden all of these fruit loops were fuckin calling me Alpha Cabbage.

Unless your a sociopath you wouldn't be able to start a cult. Also I hope I'm not stupid enough to join a cult.
>>
>>17421137

That seems more plausible, but I don't play D&D or WoW or have a neckbeard or a katana or a fedora or a second neckbeard. As Sherlock Holmes says, “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” It's Great Dragon :p

Me and my friend made a cult in high school. It was called "The Disciples of the Jellyfish City." It was a philosophy that there was a giant jellyfish with a utopian city on its head filled with "angelic beings." We even made pamphlets and had a webpage. The bible remains unfinished/lost to this day. We did pretty well for ourselves because a lot of people in our school pledged to be disciples (as a joke, but they pledged, nonetheless).
The grand finale was when we went to the special education kids and pressured them into joining. They believed us and thought we were trying to be their friends. Our religion concluded with a mass suicide where disciples drowned themselves in saltwater to gain access to the city. We got the special children to try to drown themselves in tubs of water. One got sick or something and the principal found out. Me and my friend framed our other "friend." He got in trouble and nearly got expelled.

Yes, I was a dick in high school, but so was everyone else.

I started a cult, with two of my buds from school.

We got about 20 people and bought each other rifles, and we split up into teams hunting animals.

After the day was done, we would skin them and debone them, roast the flesh (and throw it in our gardens; we didn't eat it) and we made crowns, rings and jewelry for ourselves.

It became a game for us, and the more we wore to the meetings, the more respect we got. We couldn't hunt alone, we had special "hunt-times" once every two weeks.

We talked about each others clothing/jewelry, what we were using, and selected our teams before we rode out.

It was pretty fun, until one of the smaller teams in our group started wearing their dress outside of the meetings, which caused a big stir in the town and within the group.

Eventually we did part, but it was on good terms.

>>
>>17421739
Nothing really jumps out atm, other than the first time I went through the temple. Honestly, I never truly believed or followed the religion, I went along because everyone else around me made me. Going through the temple is what really made me open my eyes and see just how weird it is. I spent the whole time wide eyed and in shock, internally saying "wat" every 5 seconds.

>>
>>17421743

To be fair, we all are in a small rural town in the bread bowl. We don't associate with the more common type of man, but sometimes we can find similarities in ourselves.

I personally work with antiques for a living. I have my own acre of lotus and white oak (don't ask me why I keep lotus on my property, I like it) and I do see how I can be associated with that type of person.

>>17421745

Most of us were over 35, I don't think the risk of that is too large.

Although, you do make a good point.

>>17421754

It was originally a friend of mine's idea (jack) to do it. He's half-inuit and he has crazy ideas like that all the time.

Once, he dared me to step on a mouse trap with my big toe, and I broke it.

He actually set it back into place on the spot.

It was a combination of my stupid and his clever that held the "cult" together as long as it did.

I personally referred to it as a club, but you know. Subject matter.
>>
cults form around things that are worthy of worship.after a time they become so wide spread that they become a creed,a religion.
>>
>>17420811
I'm kind of surprised they died like that. Cyanide poison is extremely painful and uncomfortable way to die. I wouldve expected them to be in the fetal position choking on their vomit as they suffocate.
>>
>>17421794

Shouldn't the same be said for the Jonestown murder/suicides? I hear all this about how bad of a death cyanide causes and then see all of those people arm in arm like they just laid down and hit the ol' off button.
>>
>>17420573
Not like a cult with creepy gatherings and stuff but like a secret cabal of people that is mostly about feeling a place of belonging and being able to help each other out. I guess I've thought of starting my own little illuminati group instead of a cult.
>>
>>17421794
It was phenobarbital mixed with applesauce, and chasers of vodka, then they tied plastic bags over their heads.
>>
Not even once. I got shitslammed with the truth truck and found this though. As a former militant-atheist now packing a divine channeled pseudonym invocation I bring you the cult of pure universal love and enlightenment. We're bringing positive change to the world, uniting the world's religions, and bringing down the global wealth cabal. I already started the butterfly effect by telling everyone I meet that I love them unconditionally. I'm just a messenger bringing good news. Big changes are coming so it's best to educate yourself on the truth and find your inner light sooner so you can help accelerate the event. We don't do this shit for power or wealth because we're fundamentally opposed to greed, corruption and evil polluting every major global establishment.

http://prepareforchange.net

Fight the man, find true happiness, and reconcile with the supreme creator all in one fell swoop. I've never subscribed to a cause in my life before crashing like a meteor into enlightenment on the 29th.

>>17420573
My dad was in a cult in the 60s. It was a scam and was essentially about sex and money, as these things often are. It was based around the occult and studying all of the religions of history, finding common threads etc to find a universal truth.

There were about 30 of them living in a huge rundown house, there was lots of weed and LSD and lots of sex.

Many of the members worked during the day, the house had been bought by the cult leader and the workers gave all of their money to him to pay for the house, food, clothing etc. Over months they did the house up completely, fixing plumbing, electrics, damp and the like.

What the followers didn't realise was that with ~25 lots of wages coming in every month you could pay off the house very quickly, which the leader did.

He then sold the house without telling anyone for a tidy profit and left, leaving them all suddenly homeless and very sheepish.

My dad does not regret that time, he made some very close friends including his first wife there. He has, however, never fallen for a scam since.
>>
>>17421900
It's horrible. I feel sad for them. A life ends because they believe their leader who says their death will take them to the Hale Bop spaceship.

I hope they wound up somewhere worth dying for.

The lady that played Ohura in the original Star Trek, I forget her name, but her brother was one of the guys that killed himself.

Yeah I've actually fallen into Jonestown research hole and the more I learn, the more fucked up it is. I have listened to the tapes... very sad/chilling stuff.

The first time I saw 'the' Jonestown picture - you know one of the aerial photographs with 900 bodies piled around - I thought what a bunch of crazy fucks. Now that I've done hours of reading first hand sources, Peoples Temple really wasn't much different than any other church... with the exception of Jim Jones. The easy part was realizing that community just wanted family, hope, socialism(?), a good future etc. That they weren't crazy. Brainwashed, yes.

The part I'm having trouble with is figuring out Jim Jones motives. What was his intention starting a church in the first place? Did his drug use cause a major shift in thinking? What were his ties to the CIA?

>>17420573
More than once. When I was high school aged there was this gnostic cult out in Arizona that were alleged to perform sex rituals, being a kissless virgin at the time it sounded ideal. I also occasionally corresponded with the opposite type of group, fundamentalist mormon factions in the pacific northwest and mountain states. I might still have some documents, somewhere.
Frankly the only thing stopping me at this point is that I'm such a loser I wouldn't be accepted even by this kind of group.

I also used to live nearby some scientology buildings and would see the sea-org people walking to and from it every day. Some of the women were qts and at least one would smile and wave at me, but I can't afford pursuing that.
