It's one of the few DVD copies that the creator of the film sent out before realising that it probably wasn't the best idea. He doesn't give copies out anymore AFAIK
>>
>>17316560
THAT box is for that movie? Why is it covered in voodoo veve? Does voodoo have something to do with this movie?
>>
>>17316611
Yeah, the dude who made it is a total weirdo. Apparently he had to do some sort of ritual before sending out copies (I'm not kidding). Look it up, it's really fascinating actually, the lengths people have gone to to see this film.
>>
>>17316669
>total weirdo

Well he is certainly... eccentric.

The case is very interesting, the box is clearly the symbol of the crossroads, but I dont recognize the veve on the CD itself. Its a very strange place to leave a voodoo ritual symbol.

Looking into the guys background a little, he says that he is involved with the Haitian voodoo community. Id be really interested to hear who he trained or initiated with in Haiti.

I've spoken with Justin Fornal regarding Canzo Empyrean (he's an extremely friendly, enthusiastic guy) and, long story short, the movie is very real, he's very serious about it, and he has no plans of releasing it to the public. He claims the movie has a supernatural effect on people, he used to give copies to people if they'd perform a "Canzo" (basically a rite of passage) and he stopped after people started calling him and telling him they've watched the movie tens of times and describing scenes and plot points that weren't in the movie. As far as I know he doesn't own a copy of the movie any more.

>>17316611 #
Mr. Fornal is very interested in voodoo and it's a theme in the movie.

Seeing Canzo Empyrean is a dream of mine, the movie has a very strong effect on people
>>
>>17324838
Another cool thing about Canzo is that it's a genuinely epic film, it's two and a half hours long and was filmed over the course of ten years. A bout three years ago Fornal released a reel of a few hundred screenshots from the movie in chronological order that gave an idea of how wide this movie's scope was, it has an epic fantasy storyline with lots of philosophical and mythological influences. The reel has been taken down since. If it was released after he finished it I'm pretty sure Justin Fornal would be some kind of indie icon.

The climax of the movie is a fight scene filmed on location on top of the Brooklyn Bridge, he was arrested and fined for trespassing after the scene. It was one of the first scenes filmed for the movie and the World Trade Center towers are visible in the background, you can briefly see this in the trailer.

There is no way anyone could watch the footage online and think it was even remotely good.
It's badly filmed, edited, acted, lit, directed, and a million other problems.
It's pure garbage.

>It has a very strong effect on people
Go shill your movie somewhere else, Mr. Fornal.
>>
>>17324838
>he used to give copies to people if they'd perform a "Canzo" (basically a rite of passage)

a CANZO? Are you fucking serious? Is that where the name of the film comes from?

I honestly didnt even correlate the two because thats so preposterous.

To save others the effort of looking it up, the canzo is a vodoun initiatory right. Its not required of all voodoo practitioners but is generally considered a 'serious' ritual, i.e. this isnt baptism, its more like the rite you take to start becoming a priest. Its very serious, it involves a lot of time and effort and can only be administered by ordained mambo and houngan.

Taking a fucking canzo, without the proper other initations into vodoun isnt just costly and full of effort, its stupid. If Mister Fornal is the one performing the rite, Id be MUCH more interested to know with whom he claims to have mentored under.

I'm >>17324838 and >>17324865

I'm not Justin Fornal and I'm not sure why he would be interested in "shilling" a movie that he has no plans of ever distributing. The reason me and a lot of other people are interested in seeing it is the bizarre concept and the unearthly imagery.

>>17327620

http://biggersplashes.blogspot.com/2011/06/justin-fornal-canzo-empyrean-and.html

>A few days later the email came, it was very professional, and consisted of a set of 'instructions.' We had to tag with spray paint the Canzo Empyrean logo on 20 items in our city, one of them being a police car (!), and document our graffiti with pictures. After that he said he would send us a unique watermarked copy, which he threateningly and austerely added that he would be able to identify if it popped up online anywhere and that "serious consequences would ensue." Anyways we never ended up tagging a police car (or anything else for that matter), but the point was made clear - this man was entirely dedicated to keeping his film very, very far underground (so far in fact, that out of the 2 screenings I've heard about one was done in the subterranean lairs of the sewers under NYC, shown to a group of dwellers who lived down there - the other in Monrovia, Liberia - "yes, this guy is definitely 'hardcore'")
>>
>>17328207

The double dubs at the top of your post is me.

I didn't say it looked like a masterpiece of filmmaking. The story behind the movie is what made me want to watch it. The director filmed it over the course of ten years. That's a long fucking time to be passionate about something. Think of how much you've changed in the last ten years. I'm curious how the filming style/themes/ideas change over the course of the movie, no doubt reflecting the real life changes the director would have gone through.

It being almost impossible to access also increases the allure.

Sure thing bro.

This is obvious samefagging to try and increase the myth surrounding the movie.

Only a complete idiot would watch the footage available online and come to the conclusion that it's "Pretty fucking cool" or even want to see more of it.
>>
I do just from what little I seen...besides the GIJoe reference I think I would totally like to see it. It's obviously not in the 90s filmed on some shotty VHS.
>>
>>17327620
>and consisted of a set of 'instructions.'

Well considering none of that is an actual canzo I think I have all the answers I need.
>>
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_11_missing_tapes
>>
>>17327589

I know me personally, I would do nearly anything to view the full film. I really, genuinely like what I'm seeing. From what I could understand from the footage available online, it's loosely based on GI Joe and it's basically about a dystopian future where weird pop stars are running a lawless world, and one of them has found the cure for AIDS but he's withholding it for some reason, which causes the state to declare him a terrorist.

There's that scene with Huka Brasy and the Brown Brown Misties performing their music video for Brine Guava, but then there's a sort of updated trailer which gives a fuller view of the scope of the plot; it seems like Huka Brasy turns into that nutty fucker in the mental institution in Spectre City after drinking that blue serum. I genuinely just want to see the whole film and I already love what's been released so far. It's very David Lynch with a little bit of Harmony Korina thrown in.

As well as a few scenes that are genuine gross-outs.

Does anyone know if anyone has ever seen a full screening and done a full plot synopsis online or wherever? I'd be happy just reading that if anything if I can't see the actual film in full.
>>
If I wanted to make a fake "lost" media thing, what would be the best way to go about it? Nothing illegal would be shown, just generally weird or creepy stuff. I was thinking about making a vhs tape (or just a dvd video since "creepy vhs tape" has been used to death, and I've no idea how to transfer a video file from my pc to tape) and leaving it in a random location in a local park. On the plus side, if it's left for long enough, weather will cause degradation and add an extra spooky factor to it. On the other, no one may find it, or take so long to find it, that it's unwatchable. Also I'm not sure how much trouble a person could get into for making a weird video and just leaving it around somewhere even if nothing illegal is shown in it.

I'm with you. I'm big into weird and obscure stuff, even shit people would say is bad. But some bad stuff has redeeming qualities. Perhaps they pose good questions to the viewer or the concept is unique or something. Take for instance Ryan trecartin films. Not exactly masterpieces, but I think they could be worth a watch if you're into that stuff.

However, this canzo movie looks like all around trash. A glorified long winded YouTube video that some guy is forcing mystique around it so people think it's interesting. Art and movies are subjective but oh my god this is bad

Zero percent, assuming there is nothing incriminating on it. For example, when The Ring came out in the early 2000s, Dreamworks got a bunch of guerilla marketers to literally leave copies of the "cursed tape" around random places in the street and I don't think they ever got in any sort of trouble for having done so.

Ninja Sex Party did better at a plot where sex was banned, did it twice, and managed to give a nod to Rush in one of them. That's a masterpiece.

This guy is right. Canzo is only interesting to you because you've been told you can't have it. That the only way to see it is to further it's hype at your own expense is the biggest red flag. He's asking you to symbolically give yourself to his epic. It's masturbatory, self-important, and frankly ridiculous, given the quality of the footage he released to tease the damn thing. It's just one dude who is so far up his ass that he might as well chew twice and his obsession with his own art.

It's clear that none of you lauding the glory of Canzo actually make or are involved in art outside consuming it mindlessly because you've fallen to the cult of personality artists cultivate for themselves.

Canzo is wanky, poorly done, and over hyped. If you want to see it, grow some balls and tag a pig wagon. Either way, stop talking up a shitty movie you haven't even seen. It's trash, anyway. And yes, I have seen it.

In some scenes, filming was done illegally. Most difficult scenes were done no differently than with any other B movie with high asperations: with the usual tricks. Others were just clearly done badly because he didn't care about execution as much as he cared about getting his story out. The parts that are old look dated. The parts that were rushed feel rushed. The budget issues shine through more often than a good director would let them. If he was the a self-absorbed loon, he might be good at telling an interesting story. He's just far too up his own ass to care about telling his shit well because he thinks he's the new fucking Spielberg but of an overtly hipster sort.

Dude is a shit show.

It's really a shame they got destroyed. I know, respect for those that died and all that, but they should've at least kept them vaulted for X amount of time. Especially if you want these kinds of shootings to stop, you should see what drove these guys to do it and how it could have been stopped; these tapes would have been extremely helpful.
>>
I had a teacher in high school that loved black and white movies from the golden era of film. He encouraged everyone to go into film restoration and said that an average of 8 films a year cease to exist because there isn't enough preserveration.
