Even now these lands are completely unexplored.

Like the anon above described, it is extremely difficult and sometimes dangerous to explore these lands. Yet, from time to time someone would find some megalithic structures, altars or other artifacts that the official Russian history science just doesn't know what to do with and ignores.

The thing is first Russian maps of these lands appear somewhere in the XVIIIth century. Ancient maps (XIII-XV century) show us huge cities in these places, where nothing exists now. It was as if something happened, these states just disappeared and later modern Russia was recolonozed by Europeans who were exploring these lands just like America. Seriosly, if you look at the speed of Siberia colonization, things just do look strange. Small forces would conquer enormous chunks of land in no time. If you start examining these maps you will see huge cities where there is now lakes, seas, barren frozen deserts or forests. What is interesting local Yakut tribes still have tales of the great flood in their folklore.

I've been reading on this a lot and examined a lot of ancient maps. The official Russian history science just ignores these maps or says European travelers have mixed things up or made things up to earn money. I now have a strong belief Russian history has been completely rewritten somewhere in the XVIII century as the country was rapidly westernizing.
