When me and my family were passing through South Carolina back in 2002 we stayed at a Days Inn.
Supposedly my sister saw an orb of light floating at the foot of the bed and her covers flew up into the air. I didn't see it cause I was sleeping. The next morning we saw what looked like painted over claw marks on the door.
Was it a ghost?

TL;DR Orbs caused by flash in compact cameras. The reason for this is that the flash illuminates dust particles that are drifting very close to it. These reflect light back into the camera lens, but they are too close to be in focus.
