It's a trope. There's a collective western notion that blood tastes like metal, or copper. Why do people think they know what copper tastes like? I dunno. Though I can attest to the notion that blood does seem to taste like metal. Not as an adult can I say so, but as a kid blood was metally. Now it just tastes like blood.

yeah all coins kind of have the same dirty smell to me. Pennies themselves aren't really odorous or unique in any way, I'd just describe the smell as "metallic". After playing guitar for a few minutes your hands smell the same way
