If there are any literary types here, check out 'The Deep' by Nick Cutter. Rough plot outline incoming, no major spoilers:

>mysterious disease ripping through the population
>main character is a regular joe veterinarian
>main character's brother is genius scientist working on a cure
>find strange substance with curative powers at bottom of ocean
>build lab at the bottom of Challenger Deep to find more substance and study it
>lose contact with the lab
>receive strange, creepy message from main character's brother requesting main character's presence down in the lab ASAP
>main character goes down
>shit goes fucking sideways very fast

It's got a Shining/1408 feel to it, but at the bottom of the Mariana fucking Trench. Check it out

The squid itself is what's supposed to be creepy, but too many people misinterpret the motion of the camera to be the thing that's creepy and start calling it fake without realizing how dumb they sound.

A guy attempted to reach the bottom of a blue hole using ordinary air and succumbed to nitrogen narcosis. By the time he reached the bottom (over 80 meters), his judgement was completely trashed and he had no idea where he was or what he was doing. He drowned after he accidentally knocked his own regulator out of his mouth. He literally couldn't understand why he was dying.

That's about as much luck as you being able to keep your car in the right lane.

Baleen whales work like a net, they don't eat humans, or sharks, or logs or boats or rafts or anything they don't find appetizing, It also doesn't have a very large esophagus so it's doubtful if it would even be able to swallow a human even if it attempted to.

Worst case scenario is that you get confused and drown or get crushed to death by it's enormous tongue. More likely it's going to spit you out. But getting swallowed in the first place would require some astronomically unlucky situation of you jumping from a boat same second it approaches from the depth, it's awareness otherwise is good enough to dodge you with ease.

That's not a hagfish, it's a polycaete worm. Hagfish don't have the obvious segmentation and the mouth is all wrong, that proboscus that it extruded contains four mandibles for grabbing prey, though I can forgive the confusion, the telltale parapodia are not as obvious when out of water.

Over the summer, a group of friends and I decided that we were going to try and document Great White migration. I live in Nova Scotia in Canada and there's been recent evidence that during the end of the summer seasons, Whites are supposed to be in the location for a short period of time.

This evidence is so recent, that there's very little pattern to truly prove this pattern, and we wanted to debunk this theory for more than just a coincidence.

Near the end of June or early July (about a month before they're even supposed to be around), we went for a dive shortly off coast to monitor the temperatures of the water. My location is surrounded by the Mexican gulf stream, so we figured that they'd be most likely to show up in the warmer waters, along with the other weird fish that show up through there.

We were about an hour into scouting out a location, not very far off shore and a place that we're all incredibly familiar with, when we saw a shadow. Now, if you know anything at all about diving in NS, you know that it definitely doesn't have the clearest oceans. So, okay, whatever. It's a tuna, or some shit. Those fuckers get huge. It was only when the light hit just right did we realize that it was a shark. Once again, whatever, spooky, but we're in the fucking ocean.

The few of us who saw it gathered together because we're always taught that there's safety in numbers. By now, everyone saw it just kind of swimming around. Also, by now, we realized that it wasn't just a mako shark, it was a fucking White just swimming around, doing it's fucking shark thang.

It didn't approach us and barely gave us a second glance, but I could've thrown up by how freaked out I was. We learned that either the waters were unseasonably warm, or there's far more to the supposed pattern than we thought. We went back a month later with a shark cage, and we didn't see a thing.

That's cool. I live an hour away from Vancouver, and there are great white sitings during certain parts of the year as well. Also killer whales. Now those are scary.

Sounds pretty scary to face one of those things up close i person, especially while underwater.

Would it be common for it to have approached/interacted with you in some way in the conditions? Also around how deep were you?

Imagine that but stretching into the horizon forever, up and down and left and right, "lit" in the centre but by what isn't clear

and the further from the centre you go, the darker it gets, the larger the scale, and
the angles go wrong, slowly but surely, and the metal is twisted and strange

and you start hearing noises

Port Jackson sharks are the meme of the ocean. Not only are they cute, they have learnt to get divers to pat and scratch them like you would a dog because they enjoy it. That being said, when you physically grasp them they go completely stiff. This makes them great for pranking your friends who are new to the ocean.
>>
>>17039412
Admit it, anon, you're in cahoots with the shark and the real prank you're pulling here is tricking innocent anons into trying to pet these sharks so they'll get their hands bitten off. I'm on to you.
>>
>>17039422
Nah man, for real they're super chill sharks. They don't have teeth either, just bone plates. Like they could still do damage, but mostly you'd just get a graze on your hand. I just love them for the enormous amount of amusement they've given me over the years (I'm a frequent spearfisherman and freediver)
>>
>>17039433
The jig is up, man, I know you're just a 'shell' working for the sharkspiracy.

(I actually think this is cool and was hoping to goad you into posting videos of this happening.)
>>
>>17039445
I don't actually have videos of it, because I don't video my undersea adventures. Next time I head out I'll take a camera, and when I come across one again I'll get some footage for the thread at the time. Hopefully you'll see it, I think it's pretty cool the way they behave
>>
>>17014838
could the immense pressure of the ocean be used at an alternative fuel source?
>>
>>17039530
Yeah they're actually researching how they could use it
>>
>>17039530
If you can carry it up and do t for a gain of energy, but it'd be slow and easily ruined by sea-dicks.

It's a large dana octopus squid. They have a ~5 feet mantle length and glowing orbs at the end of their tentacles that light up when they attack.

If I recall correctly, it's a Bigfin Squid. They're extremely large, and to my knowledge, no adult specimens have been found. Even in the video, it's supposedly a child.

I wish this game was just philosophical. I don't understand why it needed to be a scary.
It could have been horror still be cause the philosophical ideas were terrifying.

Love this part of the game. I just wanted to live there.

Not always, It doesn't always need to be in the dark for it to be something you don't understand.
For example, some luminous place where undiscovered things exist.
