Stuff like this reminds me of my childhood. I spent a lot of time wandering through the woods, sometimes for miles, and with no shoes. I might leave at midnight and come back at 5 am 2 days later. I'd go days without sleeping or eating, and was a bit whacked out to begin with. Hallucinated that things were following me in the trees, or some tag along has become attached to me. I also thought the place I was in probably had uranium deposits under it, and to this day, I actually still wouldn't be surprised. Ecologically, it was quite strange.

I came across a lot that weren't possibly my mind playing tricks on me (ie a tree luring me into a circle of down trees because I felt it something was trying to rummage through my mind. Thinking probably the quartz rock at the base was what afforded this ability), these were there with or without me.

It was early morning, when it was just barely beginning to become light. Late summer, early autumn. I crossed over a stone wall (arranged in a rough square) and passed by a singular apple tree in the center. The ground and grass was packed down in a circle, which I noticed but figured it was probably just deer. Kept going. Came into a small clearing, and in the center on a gnarled old twisted tree, was a ring. It was made out of thorny apple branches tied together, in the center multiple loops of black cord came together.

I tended to be wary of anything that looked like human activity. Skirted around it, kept going. Came to the back of a fairly massive field. Crossed over a fence, and started skirting the edges of that (lest I be trampled by a horse or something). There's a rock with a tree growing out of the side, almost a grove in front of me. Two paths, on the right runs up against the fence but keeps going, like and alley. On the left, there's a slope upwards, further out into the open. I go left. I come near to the top and find a mangled cow corpse, no head. Worrying about mad cow disease, I go to the top of the hill and plan to merge back to the right, given that there's dried blood everywhere and I'm barefoot, etc. Come up over this knoll and see more bodies strewn about. There are some lone heads, but as a whole, more bodies than head. Ithad a bit of a smell to it, but as a whole, seemed fairly fresh. Coyotes sometimes drag stuff off, but none of that really made sense. I left quickly.

Had a lot of strange experiences around there. Apologies for my syntax and train of thought being all garbled up, I'm quite tired.

An American Haunting had some neat forest scenes, and I think it's kind of an underrated movie in some ways.

The Witch (or VVitch if you prefer) seems to fit the bill, once it comes out.

Snow White: A Tale of Terror for a more fairy tale type story, there were some nice forest scenes that worked up the horror of that.

OP, this kind of stuff is my, for lack of a better term, spiritual fetish. I love creepy, deep woods, but for some reason it seems like every time I come across a new picture or story in this vein it seems so familiar already, as if I'd read it in a book as a child. But I always got the same feeling when I read those books as a child too. Just as an example, the Lich towers in the Twilight Forest mod for Minecraft gave me a massive rush of deja-vu and nostalgia, with their multiple branching spires and their dark spiraling stairs. I can rarely create original content with this theme but every time I encounter new content it's more of a reminder of something I forgot than an actual new thing. I can't really express the feeling very eloquently in words, but know that it makes me feel a lot of things when I see pics like the ones in this thread. This is exactly what I needed right now, thanks.
