It doesn't feel like it's been a year, but here we are again. For the fourth consecutive year, I'll be uploading my collection of creepy stories, images, books, and anything else Halloween related. There's tons of new stuff to get through this year - so much so that it's going to be split into two threads!

We've got a lot of uploads, so let's get right to it. Happy Halloween, /x/!

As always, we'll start with the largest content drop of the bunch: The text folder. It contains creepypastas, unsolved mysteries, legends, and most of all, over 4,000 nope stories of a variety of categories, most of them collected over the years from right here on /x/.

Things have been done a bit differently this time around. Last year, there was a growth of around 800 stories. The problem was, although it was free of troll posts and such (I've had to F3 the phrase "Bel Air" on every document), you'd still have to sift through a lot of stories to find the gems. This year, I've put much more thought into quality control. The growth in nope stories this year is precisely 450 new stories. You should find the density of quality stories to be much higher than before. More discussion on this later.

>>
Librarian dude! I always look forward to this dump every year, but I got a suggestion. Could you indicate which are the new ones per upload? I was thinking maybe sorting it by year of acquisition as well so that it's easier to monitor which ones we already got and which ones we don't yet have. Like I got your 2013 and 2014 dumps and looking through them I realize there's quite a lot of doubles, so yeah.
Nevertheless, thanks for doing this every year, bumpan for more spooks. Happy halloween!
>>
>>16914784
In order to get the most out of the new stories, I recommend reading from the higher numbers down in a given document. Nope General 3 was created just at Halloween last year, and as such, is the first document to be created entirely under the new quality standards.

If you're interested in seeing growth over the course of the year, there is now a Version Marker folder, which logs the number of stories in each document after every backup, ordered by date. If you want to see even further back, here's some legacy downloads.

2014:

2013:

The very first upload, 2012:

>>
>>16914788
Way ahead of you! There is now a Version Marker folder that indicates where and how many new stories were added since last time. I recommend deleting your old text folder (or archiving it somewhere) and replacing it with the new one. I understand this is less than ideal, and there will be discussions about ways to improve the process tomorrow.

As for images, there's the problem of filesize, so I understand people might not want to redownload everything. If that's the case for you, I've got you covered. In addition to the normal image uploads (which are the same ones from last year), people who already downloaded them will be able to download a single "Image Patch" folder, which contains ONLY what's new. You can extract it directly to where you're keeping the old ones, and it will essentially "patch" the new ones in. The exception is Animals & Cryptids, due to a slight re-orgsanization.

Moving on the the images now. The next post will contain the main folders, for those just joining us. For now, this next pair of downloads is for everyone who downloaded last year and wants to get the new stuff without re-downloading the old.

>>
>>16914834
You know what? More than a moment. I feel like I'm rushing this too much, and it's early anyway. Back in a bit. Let me know you're here!
>>
>>16914788
I'll address this again, since I may not have answered your question the first time.

The folders that are entirely new will be indicated. As for the files, there is absolutely going to be massive overlap with the old, as each year's uploads are the ENTIRETY of the collection at the time of uploading. This year you can download the image patch, so you can add the new images without re downloading any old ones. With most folders, however, like text and comics, I recommend that you delete your old folder and replace it with the new one, rather than stacking them together.

Of course, I realize that some folders are getting too hefty for that. This will be discussed later, as I'm looking at some possible solutions to make the process more convenient.
>>
Librarian, do you happen to have the old Andre Files that were posted on /x/ back in 2009 (might have been 2010)?

Would you mind if i ask you a few question ?
As i'm a writer and i wrote a story and you looks like one of the character, i have a few question :

Why do you do this ?
How do you do this ?
How does all of this started for you ?
What is your life ?
>>
>>16914941

Yes! Didn't know it was uploaded to the creepypasta site. I wonder if it contains the entire thing, though. See, the OP of the Andre Files played it out like he was an actual worker at the hospital who uncovered the files while cleaning shit up one day and would post a little bit at a time on /x/ over the period of a few weeks. During his endgame, when "They" were onto him, he even cross posted on other boards like /trv/ on places he could go to just disappear and how to erase his identity and adopt a new one. He went all out on the effort. Thanks for uncovering this for me, though. This brings back some memories.

Thanks everyone!

As I said yesterday, I wanted to talk about how to move forward with this. The current format of a mass download on Halloween seems, to me, less than ideal. You're basically waiting a full year for updates, and some areas of the folder are neglected in that time. Not only that, the largest areas of the folder CAN'T be uploaded. The Video Games section, everything is too large. Audio, it would have to be split into so many chunks that it would be a pain to re-organize after downloading. Movies, Shows, Videos, many are too big, and even if they weren't, I'd be assassinated by lawyers.

I'm looking for ideas on how to get content to you guys more frequently, without having to re-download an entire section in order to get the new stuff. There would still be the Halloween megathread, but you wouldn't have to wait the whole year to see your favorite sections updated. Speaking of that, some sections have changed very little or not at all in the past year. However I end up putting out faster content, be it through more frequent, smaller threads, or something else, I also want to use it for better communication with you guys. That way anyone can, at any time, request that I focus on a certain area for a while.
>>
>>16921164
You are a god. What type of audio do you have in mind?
>>
>>16921164
I'd say make it a monthly or bimonthly thread with links of what's new. I mean that would be a start.

Seconding the use of pastebin.
And Mega might not be able to store his entire collection, but overall it is one of the best sharing platforms out there.

I also suggest that we have some spooky music as well. If copyright is an issue we can just protect the download with a password system that only gets shared through an image, so that bots can't read it.

I'll look into pastebin.

Though I have no idea where to even start, I'd LIKE to move past the need for uploads entirely and just have a website. There'd still be mediafire and pastebin though, since I want this to be something you can read when you don't have internet. Also useful, as you said, for things that might have copyright issues.

For those that want the whole package in one go, fully organized with no assembly required, I've considered having one huge torrent for the entire thing. Everything is self contained. It has VLC media player for files that require it, and a PS1 emulator for LSD Dream Emulator, things like that.

Blogs are a perfect way to have a dedicated place for what you want to do, and they allow you to do constant updates (entries) that your visitors can easily notice.
The only issue is that it takes effort to organize everything, make the site pleassing to the eye, and also blogs and their links are prone to be taken down if you accidentally end up messing with the wrong person or company.

I can't really help you on which blog host to choose; but there are boards in 4chan that may be more knowledgeable and helpful for that kind of thing; /g/ and /adv/ for starters.

The torrent also sounds like a great idea.
>>
>>16929240

Thanks, you too!

Some good ideas here, a blog might be good for "best-of" type content. Before I let this thread die, one last thing: Is there any area in particular where you want to see more content? As I said previously, some places where pretty neglected over the past year, but the Wallpapers folder is less than a month old, and it grew as much as the entire image section. It's really all about what's being focused on, and if I only look at what interests me at the moment, some things will just never be updated.

I am not particularly afraid (or fond) of clowns, but the clown section is kinda lacking.

Art is great and it should always be a folder that gets some love, but it is already pretty big.
And in my opinion "Dolls, Mannequins, Etc" and "Post-Mortem Photography" are the most interesting folders, so I'd like some more of those.

>P.S. This is my last 4chan page with a dancing skeleton, I'm gonna miss them :(

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
