who knows?
Maybe not the gigantic sea creatures from the images, but there could be something hidden in the darkness of the depts that's yet to be discovered.
>>15982345
Here's a photo I found recently. While the cow shark is cute (and large), it's not the focus of the photo. If you look to the right and near the top, you can see a weird shape creeping out from the blueness. Honestly, it could be something easily explainable, but it does look pretty weird, right?
Bump for some scary deep sea mysteries and stories

>but it does look pretty weird, right?
Don't worry, it's a weather balloon. No need to be scared.
Do you guys think that maybe some old dinosaurs are still alive underwater? I mean, if the asteroid hit Earth, wouldnt they be safe in really deep waters? I think that they are still there, or some version of them.

>>15982647
Ummm I'm sure it's swamp gas.
>>15982524
There are and we have proof of a few already. I'm refering to things such as the goblin Shark, Giant kinds of octopus and that ancient, previously thought extinct armoured fish species. the deep ocean is relatively unexplored which increases the likelyhood of species existing that we are unaware of. The difficulty in exploring the area in question,in combination with pressure differences and the fact that anything fit for consumtion qickly gets devoured due to food scarcity at such depths are imo good reasons for why I find it likely that all big marine life species havent been found yet.

>>15982658
No, because marine reptiles =/= dinosaurs
>>15982658
The coelecanth is proof that this is possibly (and even likely).
However, as someone else said, they technically wouldn't be *dinosaurs*. I also think that it wouldn't be anything like what you're thinking, as it would almost have to be something that lives in the deepest parts of the oceans.
Kraken? Unlikely. There's some big squids down there, but nothing kraken-sized has been seen so far. There's no evidence for it, other than sailor legends.
Sea serpents? Again, no evidence. Surely somebody would have caught one on film or photo by now.
If there are any true sea monsters, its most likely going to be some really ugly motherfucker that lives way down in the ocean, and has never been a threat to any human ever.
>>15987772
But collosal/giant squid are krakens, just not as large as the ones in legend.
My favorite uncomfortable oceanic image: the frill shark's wikipedia picture.

>>15995171
Or maybe they realize they're on an anonymous imageboard and don't give a fuck. Just a possibility (not even who you were responding to btw, you're just an uptight dick)
So technically this isn't a sea monster, but they've been playing Jaws on TV again, and out of all the scenes in this movie, this is the one that always got me the most. This perfect, horrifying image.
Some might argue scenes near the end when Jaws is attacking the Orca are scarier, but even though it's a good movie that holds up decently over time, after watching countless shark documentaries, it's too easy for me to notice the shark is fake when you see more of it, especially when it rears up out of the water and chomps its mouth continually. But damn, when this thing is underwater and you just catch glimpses of it, it still manages to be pretty creepy even to this day.

I was never afraid of anything in the bath, but even though I knew it was an irrational fear, I would sometimes imagine an alligator or shark lurking in the bottom of a swimming pool, especially at night. There's a large swim center around here that has a giant grate at the deep end and as kids we would imagine some horrible monster lurking behind it.

I remember I had a dream about sea monsters. It was in a flooded, decaying version of my hometown, with the water completely covering the ground floors of houses in some places. We'd use kayaks and RHIBs to get around, it was very Innsmouthy.
The one thing everyone was afraid of was this fishing boat. It wasn't a dinghy, wasn't a trawler, just one of the medium sized ones. It was all rotten and covered in barnacles, white paint peeling off of it. We weren't afraid of the boat per se, we were afraid of what came with it. It was being towed by something deep beneath the surface. I don't remember if we gave it offerings or what, but I know for years, I had never been afraid of anything as much as I'd been afraid of that boat.
>>15987772
>Again, no evidence. Surely somebody would have caught one on film or photo by now.
Now you can't just assume this. There are so many creatures out there still undiscovered, and just assuming they don't exist because no one has caught them alive, dead, or with film, is a very bad thing to do.

Not that it will be of much interest, but I work on an offshore construction boat as an ROV pilot. The field we are working in just now varies from about 1,200-1,500m deep, and we're usually within 5m of the seabed.
Marine wildlife is usually limited to massive crabs and some cool rays, but every now and then we see some weeeeeeeeeeird shit down there. Small scale, of course, but it does make you wonder what is out there when you head into seriously deep water.
We've seen things light-up in tens of different fluorescent colours at once, flashing through sequences, and then basically pulling themselves inside out and running the sequence in reverse.
Not being marine biologists, and just being dumb oilfield trash, we don't have a clue what we're looking at sadly, and because the client is paying for the subs to be there, we're officially not allowed to take any of the video or stills off the hard-drives.
>>15992508
The fucking people swimming away make it man. Thats fucking creepy
>>16006458
Agreed. Bruce doesn't hold up under direct shots, but those underwater shots still give me wonderful shivers.
I've got White shark specific selachophobia, but since I'm the kind of person that loves to scare myself in controlled circumstances I watch any and every Great White documentary and movie no matter how shitty. I actually think Jaws may have given me this phobia, since I saw it at a very young age and unexpectedly (walked downstairs at just the wrong moment when I was five or so).
I will be heartbroken if they go extinct. I give to shark research and conservation charities, but I worry it's not going to be enough.
