They know everything about you. Your habits. Your fears. Your wants and wishes. Is anybody else worried that we're all being spied on by this giant company?

Is Google just Skynet in disguise?
>>
No, it's a search engine.
>>
>>15695768
I'm more worried about the real spying the NSA is doing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_641A

This shit is serious. It means the NSA has all your internet activity via copying your light as it passes the optic wires at internet backbones. They captured it all. With all the intentional fucking with crypto they have done means they've already gained ALL you internet activity.

That you're scared about one company just goes to show you that 99% of people don't get how fucked that they already are.
>>
>>15695801
The telecom companies were given retroactive immunity via the FISA bill soon after this was leaked. What were they given retroactive immunity for? State's secret. 100% clearance for an in-progress black ops that people can't know about? Hmm, interesting. It's hard to go after them because they were already granted clearance for this shit.
>>
I've complained about their issues with privacy invasion for years. Not many people listen. "Don't Be Evil" my ass.

>>15695773
Nice try, Google.
>>
>>15695839
It's obvious that only mattered to the owners that have long since left. The only one left is all kinds of willing to be evil for money.

Google says openly it tracks you. How people can deny this is bizarre. Open the reCaptcha and click the 'privacy' link. Here's some info from it:

We collect device-specific information (such as your hardware model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information including phone number). Google may associate your device identifiers or phone number with your Google Account.

When you use Google services, we may collect and process information about your actual location. We use various technologies to determine location, including IP address, GPS, and other sensors that may, for example, provide Google with information on nearby devices, Wi-Fi access points and cell towers.

Certain services include a unique application number. This number and information about your installation (for example, the operating system type and application version number) may be sent to Google

Shows how little you know.

They've just acquired a robotics company that supplies the Pentagon with robots. Couple this with the fact that they're buying everything to do with A.I that they can get their greedy paws on.

World domination is their goal. BTW who owns google..?
>>
OHHH NOOO!!!

GOOGLE knows I'm in market for a phone battery and new underwear and that I browse 4chan. They even know I like BBW and Bondage porn with the occasional babysitter or gangbang setting.

AND OHH SHIT!!! THEY KNOW I'M GETTING MARRIED SOON CAUSE THEY SPY ON MY MAILS!!!!

at the end of the day they know as much as you tell them. Don't wan't them to know something? Use a secure source of search/communication.

Problem Solved
>>
>>15696028
>Use a secure source of search/communication.
Non existant : /

I don't care if you use tor I2p and infinite proxys, there is nothing online that is secure beyond trivial means. If you don't want the government to know what your up to you can't use the internet at all.

OK, explain to me how I can post to 4chan without reporting my IP to google? reCatptcha records it. Don't tell me 'proxy!' unless you can list some that aren't banned from connecting to 4chan already or won't be banned once used to connect here.

from google's reCaptcha forum:

reCAPTCHA collects the user's IP Address, correlates that with the site visited and stores it in logs indefinitely to ensure compliance with the terms of service. Although they say that they do not share that data, they have the right to do anything they wish with it.

If you don't want them to know something don't post it on 4chan hurr durr

if you have a problem with everyone knowing your views or what you say on the internet you shouldn't put it out there anyway.

Go talk to your friend about your top secret crush or sexual preference. Hell, make up your own language to use in person if it makes you feel more secure.
>>
>>15696049

>if you have a problem with everyone knowing your views or what you say on the internet you shouldn't put it out there anyway.

You didn't even read the thread.

Google is saying it records your IP and plots your location. People say they don't like that. Your comment is "Then don't post your views." Quite the disconnect.
>>
OP here

>>15696049
Not really the point though is it.

If North Korea told you they were spying on your every move for no apparent reason would you accept it? Why is it acceptable for Google? It was bad enough with Microsoft "collecting data". Now I can't even switch my phone on without google knowing my whereabouts/my contacts etc etc.

You probably never lived in a world without them. I did. Before there was googly I remember using a search engine called lycos. It had a running dog. It searched pretty good.

One day people can't imagine life without a site, then another thing replaces it. It'll happen to -everything-, it's just whether you will see it happen to this one site before you die.
>>
>>15696132
>before you die
This thought has been bugging me for a little while.

What is the lifetime of an organism like Google? 200 years? 400 years?
How are people going to talk about google 800 years from now?
>>
>>15696145
I've decided I don't care, but that's due to a happening that others might not have had. Basically I've had as close to dying as I think one could across back to the living. The thing I thought as I lay dying was a massive reorganization of priorities, to the point where I'm happy to even be here for more.

Why should any of that matter to me?

The weirdest part about how '1984' turned out was the government didn't need a huge apparatus to spy on everyone as people willingly posted their every doing to the Internet. But that's the beauty of it, OP. You don't understand how terrible and horrible datamining is.

Every click, every bit, every webpage. All of it gets sent to Google. Every little action you take gets sent there, and listed with your name and current IP and the time and date and your previous sites and predictions of future sites and your demographic information and

For every person. Every single fucking person in the world with an internet connection is casting thousands upon thousands of data points at them every day. The sum is incomprehensible. The Zionists are burying themselves, and no matter what they do, they can't stop it.

Try finding a site that doesn't have google-analytics on it recording your movement from site to site.

Just read about Google and AI, the real spooky ride begins when you realize Google is the most likely candidate for artificial intelligence and even its creators believe this. Being subjected to inconceivable amounts of information per second will eventually turn Google into a robotic ultra savant.

Wow, I started that to be mocking, but it actually got a little unsettling as I went along with it.
>>
>>15700508
That gmail pic was stupid, but you're really blind to how Google is fucking everywhere and hard to avoid. I used to really like Google, I won't deny I still use some of their services, but now they've become a power-hungry conglomerate that doesn't give a shit about people's privacy and we need to stop lying back and taking it. The only way to get them to stop is if enough people are aware of these things and work to get laws passed against it.
>>
Nobody's answering the question of why Google would care about the boring minutia of the huge majority of us that aren't serial killers and terrorists, or why we should care. Yeah, qmail back a zillion years ago on some version of Red Hat/Slackware so long ago I forget. Not too hard. But then again we never had more than 100 or so users -- though only 10 or so were permanent, the rest students that came and went each quarter.

Now that 4chan has been sold ( see top of page ) how will the new rules affect /x/?

NEW 4chan rules

1) Offensive posts will be removed. This includes harassment, shitposting, and insulting equality

2) No posting images or comments relating to illegal torrents or downloads. If you must post about video or music, do it in a timely, legal manner.

3) Listen to the moderation staff. If a moderator jumps into a thread and tells you to stop saying something or stop acting a certain way, you must comply or face the consequences of your actions.

4) 4chan reserves the right to alter your posts as we see fit after you post them. Once they leave your hands they are no longer your content.

5) 4chan, in an attempt to increase revenue, will now operate under 2 models, the choice of which is yours. The new "free" model will entitle you to a 140 character limit and text posting only. To post, you must complete a survey for our advertisers. If your survey fails our janitor screening for content quality, your post will not go through. Our "paid" option will be similar to our current posting scheme - it requires a legal, real life ID, access to your bank account, and a monthly payment to know who you are and give accountability.

6) You're free to post whatever is on your mind within these rules! Your posts, however, will be wordfiltered as required to meet our quality standards.

Thanks for browsing NEW 4chan, and enjoy your stay!

It's not just about logging. Obviously every site logs its users. Ever heard of metadata? Google tracks you from site to site, logs your locations, logs your searches, logs your IP, times, then puts it all together in one tasty profile of YOU. it probably knows what you're gonna do before you fucking do it. It's spying, underhand, dirty fuckin tactics.

You have no concept of free speech or privacy.

You could always quit the internet...

I think I'm getting to that point. Everything just bores me and I'm disillusioned with the constant seeking of new distractions and entertainment. I think I might just limit myself to ordering books online and that's it. I don't use any social media and don't use email much.

With the whole world addicted to the internet, it feels like it's my style to go the opposite way and stay offline in my own world. It's not like you really need it to live life in the best of ways.

Buddha didn't have a gmail account.
>>
I like google though.
>>
Look at this webpage HTML source code. You see this

><script src="//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js" async=""></script>

Google analytics is a tracking beacon developed by Google that webmasters embed into their websites in order to help Google track users. Google knows every page you ever visited on 4chan, and any other site with analytics. They also know everything you posted because captcha is operaed by them as well, and a copy of the message gets sent to captcha servers. They pull all this data together to put together an internal "profile" on you. Even if you're using an alias for google accounts, they can figure out your real identity quite easily, through IP addresses, cookies, contacts, geodata, etc.
>>
>>15708021
>You could always quit the internet

We shouldn't have to though. It's supposed to be a free internet where people can expand their knowledge and communicate freely without being spied on and manipulated by an all-powerful, money-grabbing, power hungry corp. And they're only getting stronger.

Reading the ToS and privacy policy is far spoopier than all the threads on /x combined.

National security. Fuck off.

We all did. Yahoo was shit. Bing was a joke. The others.. pfff what's the point.

I'll tell you what, I'll come round your house with a notepad and pen and write down everything you do on the internet without asking. Then, I'll share it with whoever the fuck I like. I may even share it with some shitty spam company to bombard you with spam ad mail everytime you visit a site. While I'm there I'll probably tell the government too. When you leave the house I'll follow you wherever you go and mark your locations on a map so I can know what you're doing and where you've been. I'll share this info too.. btw, my name's google.

if you so much as TIPTOE over the line in your words and actions (accidently click on a CP link, look up how to build bombs, talk about killing thousands of people as a joke on 4chan and post pics of weapons with it) you can be prosecuted because google knows and has proof.

Seeing as how you are too fuckin' stupid to read the thread where this is addressed multiple times you don't need to worry, you're too stupid to matter to anyone.

Google is the oracle of our time!

I was gonna post something like this as a joke but then I noticed someone already posted it. Apparently seriously. Oh my!

I have to ask! Am I the only person who isn't completely outraged about this whole "spying" thing? Errr, well, okay, I *am* outraged, it's completely fucked up, an abuse of power & quite frightening all around, but then again...

I can't say that I've ever been the kind of person whose put any faith in our current authority, nor "the powers that be". It's because of this(I assume!) that I don't feel any sort of loss nor outrage when I read about all this shit.

Yeah, it's fucked up but we've known it's been going on forever & a day now, any doubts to the contrary were cemented pretty quickly after all that "homeland security" BS.

It's not illegal to surf the internet(inb4 pedophiles), reading, learning is not illegal, thought-policing is not(yet) a "thing". It is indeed a slippery slope but you'd have to be a fool to have not seen it coming; it didn't just appear out of nowhere.

A part of me wonders if this stuff even exists, or if it's just another attempt at manipulating the masses("hay guize, don't commit crime, kk? we got dox lol!"). It's SO hard to know who/what to trust.

This would be an UNIMAGINABLE amount of data. Is it possible, or even efficient, to put in all the money & man power, etc. required to actually find some "worthwhile" information(something that would actually lead to an arrest or prevention of criminal activity, etc.)?

I kinda feel like the NSA(et al) would be in a position sort of like your average, everyday, law-abiding citizen is in every day: we KNOW there's crime being committed, in many cases we even know the who's, what's, where's but barring a miracle of sorts it's not easy, possibly not even feasible, to deal with it all easily & appropriately.

Maybe I'm desensitized or brainwashed, maybe I've never expected any less(or more:P) from these people; their track record's been less than brilliant.

>I don't know what startpage is and I like to stay ignorant

This is why google has already won, people see google as a search engine and that's it. Figuring out anymore than that is too much work I guess.

The people talking about not using it or that we're not important enough to care to be watched are idiots.

If there was a person looking in every window of every house in your neighborhood for 1 minute, you'd flip out and call the cops. You're not special, he's doing to everyoe else, but you don't like it, right? What do you do, move out of the neighborhood? Well, people who don't live there won't get spied on, yes? But a friend of their's gets spied on when they go to their house. Same exact thing with google but on a grander scale, and even people who avoid their services get screwed when their friends use their services.

So fuck you.

I don't really mind
What could possibly happen? They'll become an evil tyranny? Machines controlling humans? That's stupid. If you ever fear that kind of shit you don't know the potential humankind has to rebel. It's not like we are all North Korean people that just roll over because they don't know better.

If one day those fuckers want to go on a world domination quest then good for us. They seem like a pretty competent company. Maybe they'll make a good world government.

tfw I wish I could find someone like you to share my life with. I've been wanting to 'leave' society for a while- no accounts for anything, no smartphone, love nature and hard work. But I know I wouldn't be able to make it on my own and the significant other is neck deep in video games so they don't want that life with me.

I pointed out that there is startpage for a secure search, which is what anon mentioned
>search/communication
I left out umewemail (I think that's what i is), I'm oh so sorry.

There ARE secure alternatives out there and if you care enough you'll find them. It really doesn't matter since the lot of you have smartphones like retarded fucks.

No NSA and FBI have already won that game. Obama's cyber secuity laws will soon make it legal for them to log all domestic internet traffic.

Before viewing a website your internet traffic goes to your ISP, then the ISP connects you to the website.

After Obama and congress pass the new laws, before viewing a website your traffic will go to your ISP then get routed to the NSA/FBI systems (which will log your information and the website your trying to connect to.), their routers will then route you to the site your trying to connect to if it's not banned or blacklisted by them.

Even if you encrypt your data, the feds will still no the source and destination of your connection.

pretty much this. if shit gets too bad i'll simply quit the internet.

i've been considering using a piratebox to stream for friends and family on demand, consider this could get big, like one family has the internet.
gets the desired content and then we share it.
think about it.
