How does one get into making music like boards of canda, Autechre, Aphex Twin etc

Explained to someone who has no musical experience other than playing guitar and bass and no experience with programs like ableton.

In other words explain the equipment, programs I need in order to get on the track of making sounds like the artists listed above.
