Alright, first of I want to say that I'm rather used to using computers. Although I'm fairly good at solving my own problems this one baffles me.
It's related to games/steam. I've got about 150 hours spent on the Dark Souls series, and most of them are from a legitimate copy of the game, but this is not about getting a illegitimate copy to work. You see, I've played through the first, and the second numerous times. Ive got them both in my steam library. But, I decided it was time for a new experience so I downloaded a torrent for Dark Souls 3, installed the game, played it for a couple of hours then went to bed.
Today, after work, I try to launch the game, but it freezes and crashes on startup. After a while of trying to get it to work I get fed up and decide to uninstall the game and purchase it later for a trouble-free experience.
I later try and boot up DS1, but the same kind of freeze n crash happens. At this point I also notice that my steam client has started crashing when I connect/disconnect my Xbox One controller. I'ts also very slow to boot while my controller is connected.
As a last resort, I try to start DS2, but that doesnt work either. Same story.
At this point I'm baffled, no other game crashes. I've tried starting them without the controller connected. I've tried reinstalling DS1, no change. Ive ran malware scans and ccleaner. I've deleted everything related to the DS3 torrent.
What the hell has happened to my PC? I run Windows 8.1 btw. Anyone knows of a fix?

I'm assuming that pirated DS game somehow corrupted the ability of steam to launch/play the others. Try simply re-installing or format and re-install it all. I bet that would work.

Update: I figured it had to be the controller screwing something up. It had a poorly damaged female socket for a while, so it must've disconnected as it was auto updating, or synchronizing drivers or whatever, causing corrupted files somewhere. Probably inside steam, as the problem was showing there as well. (Something with the controller profiling in steam?). I got a hold of some Xbox One Controller drivers, downloaded since before they became win10 exclusive. Uninstalled the previous ones, Voilà. It worked.
