What is the best cake recipe available? I'm making a cake to celebrate my friend getting married so I don't care 'bout it being healthy. I cook a lot but I've only ever baked bread before and that was easy. I really wanna impress so I wasn't sure whether I should just google a generic one or ask here. I remember a friend baked an Oreo cake using the Oreo filling used to separate the layers of cake and as icing, that was amazing but I don't know where to find it and it was probably too hard to make.
It’s a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake. If the way is hazy, you gotta do the cooking by the book; you know you can’t be lazy

I think you should try to watch a Youtube tutorial. Good luck, anon. I hope you can bake a delicious cake.

Your first attempt will probably be a 6/10 at best. Whichever recipe you chose, prepare to make it a few times.
My favorite cake is Frankfurter Kranz btw. Hard to get right though because you can easily make it too soaked or too dry.
support a local business and buy a cake

Felt like there wouldn't really be enough discussion in the thread so I didn't wanna just shit up their board...

I suppose so, I take pleasure in cooking the occasional complicated meal but baking is so different I wouldn't be able to judge how long to leave it baking for, if it needs more of a certain ingredient etc.

Poundcake. If you stick with the recipe you can't fuck it up that badly ever unless you literally char it.

Also prepare whipped cream to serve with it. Cut a piece and drop a ton of whipped cream on it when served.
Try making a chocolate moist cake. God Im craving for some
A cheesecake, I did this, the Monterosa cheesecake one time I had to go to a place with lots of people and they all enjoyed, it was eaten quite quickly.
Update for anyone that cares: I made a chocolate cake and it ended up rising too high as well as it was a little crumbly however bombshells nice and presumably will taste so as well. I feel bad for presenting this mess at my friends engagement party but it's what I got.

the thought that counts

Actually never mind, For some reason they all absolutely loved it and asked me how I did it. You couldn't see it crumbling under the icing and I slapped some strawberries and icing sugar over it to make it look nice.

Saged to let this thread die.
Just thought I'd say that the entire thing was finished and one person asked for thirds. I am very happy boy
Just cover it with fondant and no one will be the wiser
