Are there any anime communities that are better than /a/? (that's not dead?) People can't seem to laugh at anything or like anything any more and they all seem to be controlled by their dicks
Only board worth a damn for actual discussions is /n/, probably because the autism keeps everyone civil.
Get on the AB irc and meme woth me laddie

Maybe reddit or /co/ is better for you.
If you want anime discussion that's upbeat, not pointlessly contrarian and not oversexed to hell, watch anime with real-life friends and discuss it with them. For passive media like anime, if you find a single discussion group online that's made of fans and not obsessive critics, it's going to be the "turn your brain off" demographic.

I mean that's true. How would I go about that? Most of my friends are into bicycles and the like. Hitting up the local anime club at my uni?
It sounds like your main problem is you're trying to talk about popular, trendy anime on /a/. You can't really do that anymore, not for many years now. Generally if a show is less popular the threads will be better. Less shitposting, less trolling, more people earnestly discussing it and enjoying it. Though if you have a problem with sexual stuff then maybe 4chan just isn't for you in general.

I don't have a problem with sexual stuff, it's just jesus /a/nons are waaaay oversexual on a blue board and there are threads that literally could go on /e/ and it wouldn't make a difference. Does "How long should girls air out their socks?" sound like good discussion to you?

You severely underestimate the volume of posting that happens on /a/, therefore most of the shit you want to talk about have probably been discussed to death. Feel free to search the archives for old threads about anime you watched and the closer they are to release the more actual discussion you find.
