Is the added multi core performance of the new mobile processors worth it for compiling? Single core improvements seem negligible.
Going into 1st year comp-sci, school uses primarily Java, and some C/C++, no clue what compiler I'll be using.

Yes, absolutely.

So long as your storage layer can keep up (and it can so long as you're not compiling Chrome off a hard disk), cores correlate directly to performance.

Going from 4+0 to 4+4 isn't as huge a difference as from 4+0 to 6+6, but it will still be noticeable. If you're doing a lot of building, you should really get the new i7.
