Can you recommend some books that faithfully depict what life looks like from grade school to college age in the US? Even some segments of it, really. Not raw data, just personal stories. Could be fiction, if realistic. Thanks.
Never seen it, but it fits the bill. Literally in production for 12 years following some kid:

Honestly anything in the genre "Coming of Age".

Yeah, I know, I'm just hoping for something more informative than "introvert is really deep and gets the girl". Like anon said, "Boyhood" - but a book.
Why are you looking for this kind of stuff?
You could try The Glass Castle. It was a required read for a class (I think high school), and the only one I truly enjoyed. I wouldn't call it a typical youth though.

Need some decent reference for a novel, and as I'm from Poland I can't really use my own memories.
I like Glass Castle too, but it's not really what I'm looking for, unfortunately.

I have a feeling its going to be difficult to find a popular novel that depicts growing up, mostly do to the interest of the public in the morbid or perverse stories of others over the benign, vanilla lives of others.
If you have a particular demographic in mind, find biographies from people of that background.
Otherwise, find someone from the US online and just interview them. Interviews are a great tool for authors.
