What is a good and simple program for editing mp4 and/or webm vidoes?

I want to cut out certain frames etc in the middle of a video and focus on certain parts in a frame in a video.

I have already tried four different programs but they did not work or I could not figure it out.

Hitfilm is really good, it's pretty easy to use and has lots of features.

The only downside is it's "nagware", you always have ads to upgrade when you open it.
