trying to load .swf games from my HD and they won't play - just a blank screen. flash content from 4chan still works. there's been a bunch of updates to firefox in the past few days, and it's possible one of them broke this. i tried googling for an answer and got no useful results; firefox 55.0.2 (64-bit) under windows 10, if that means anything.
pic related, it's what i'd be doing if this still worked.

sorry to bother y'all with this. fixed; i had to locate, and then trawl through mozilla's help forums before i found this:
about:config, change the plugins.http_https_only preference to switch the value from true to false
*mutter*

The reason for the change is the same-origin policy.
If a SWF runs from some server, it can only access that server.
If a SWF runs from your hard drive, it can access all of your hard drive. I wouldn't trust Flash with that, because Adobe has proven themselves incapable of securing it.

the flash files i'm running, i've had for years. if they wanted to destroy my machine they've had plenty of chances to do this before now.

Yeah, it's the one some dodgy site places in your disk cache then uses a JS vulnerabliity to execute that you need to worry about.
