No, not at all. You're talking about Atari age, and Atari universally was garbage. The only reason it was even popular was because it was brand spanking new. NES is what brought life back into the game market.
If you're talking PC before the NES showed up, then the answer is likewise no. You either have text-based adventure games (99% of them were shit and the entire genre lasted maybe 2 years before that market imploded), or incredibly basic and immature Dungeon Crawl games that lasted maybe 10 or so rooms before ending.
Games didn't start becoming good until around the era of the NES and afterwards. Before that era is mostly history pieces.

King's Quest was alright at the time. I always fell off the damn tree, though.
Text based games are still cool

If you liked arcade-styled games like those on the early NES, you can have a lot of fun on the Atari since they were the norm back then - my favourites are River Raid, Berzerk, Missle Command, Kaboom and Q-bert. Games with stories weren't popular back then, so you're out of luck if that was what you were searching. The closest thing you can get to that is from the games Adventure, Jungle Hunt and Pitfall.
Atari had 3d wireframe tank, and airplane simulators that were fun as fuck.
