I liked Diebuster.

But you should just watch it and form your own opinion.

It's more FLCL than Gunbuster desu

so if you only like old school Gainax you'll not like it, if you like Gainax period then you'll be ok.

Watch Diebuster six months from now when you still fondly remember Gunbuster but it's not fresh on your mind.

Diebuster's ending is really great if you've seen Gunbuster. The series itself might be hit or miss depending on what you liked about Gunbuster. It feels different and doesn't have a whole lot of apparent relation to Gunbuster at first, but it all ties together in the end.
