So help me fix this little wee problem...and perhaps a bigger one
>start pc
>as I login "LOGIN CORRUPTED"
>FIREFOX CORRUPTED
>SKYPE CORRUPTED
>everything is corrupted so reboot and run chkdsc
>everything turns out ok
>but now on firefox thread auto update button is missing
>settings won't save after everything is checked and shows no indication that its doing anything off in the right of pic related
>yet the last version of IE which I still have installed for shits and giggles has thread auto update button
I tried re-installing firefox, should I uninstall it and hope that fixes it, seems small but manually refreshing threads is a pain.
Also is my hard drive dying or something else going on with this pc of mine, bare in mind its still on windows 7 as I locked out the forced update and my AV *just* expired and waiting for bills to clear, haven't been visiting dodgy sites since it expired a month ago as a precaution.
Please be kind its been a hard month
clear cache. also make sure thread iant archived. get malwarebytes, dont pay for shitty av that does nothing, its a scam for paranoid people
>fall asleep waiting for replies
>only remembered thread updater wasn't working because tab was running
Fuck this shit

Tried yours first because sleepy, I copied my profile and...it all came back including the update checkbox, didn't even need the backups but good precaution as always.
I've heard good about mbam, would that work fine if the pc is supposedly compromised?
And I thought mse was rubbish or is >>347194
correct about paid ones for paranoid people?
I liked karpasky when it was running, blocked me from stupid shit many times unlike when I was with avgn years ago (felt like I actually had to learn self control and manually hit the scan button to actually have some effect).
Cheers to you both

im malwarebytes reccomendor. mse is absolutely terrible and microsoft has recommended against it. in various tests they almost always come up even, the main threat to you is windows without updates since not even antivirus will protect against certain things. at least use 8 for extended support.
if your pc is already compromised antivirus wont do anything if the malware is good, it embeds itself into the system. if its just shit like putting a miner to run at start then it tends to be easier. in fact even not using an antivirus you still won't just randomly get a virus in most cases. in the future do the cache clear. 2 clicks and firefox restart vs uninstalling it.
