Can you guys recommend some good Notebooks for student? My budget is 300- 400 Euro. Is a Thinkpad 420 really good or is it just a /g/ meme?

I got a Fujitsu Lifebook S751 lease returner for 140 Euro, more than enough. Looks really great too with its white keyboard imho. Lease returner business notebooks are a good pick altogether.

They are really good, but they are old, and they're missing modern conveniences like UEFI and Intel Smart Response (you need an xx30 with Ivy Bridge for that).
What you do get, though, is unparalleled build quality. Thinkpads shrug off events that would destroy or write off other laptops: spill your drink on them and it comes back out the bottom, drop them on their power connector and all you need to do is bend back the sacrificial bracket, knock them off the desk and the freefall sensor parks the hard disk.
Lenovo do a factory refurbishment program where you get a laptop that's been cleaned, given a new battery, and warranted for a year. It's a really good deal.
