on google apps look for 'recover files' and try to download an app that has a scan or a deep scan tool (if the app doesn't have one then ditch it)
I've successfully recovered files deleted months ago, it helps if you haven't mess around with the files too much.

On older Android versions, I could do a scan with Recuva. But now, I think your only option is a tool like Diskdigger that's going to find various thumbnails/half-size/etc. copies of your images, which might be helpful.
