If it turns on when you try to start it but you dont get anything on the screen, its probably something wrong with the screen or screen cable.

If it doesnt turn on its probably something with the motherboard

opening is definitely required. Check cables to screen and see if the board appears to be working when switching it on, can you hear the fan, does the disk appear to be accessed?

does it have hdmi? test it with a monitor

The screen doesn't light up at all, I don't think it actually is turning on and the fan doesn't turn on but the vents do get warm
