What kind of plot twists in particular makes you cringe with isekai? I myself don't like MCs getting all-knowing overpowered war gods all of a sudden. Especially when they gasp "I did that?"

Well you see, it's not even plot twists, it's just the plot in general. The characters are all too self-aware. 'Oh look I got transported into another world just like those in mangas and light novels ecks dee'.
I also agree with the all-knowing overpowered stuff, a supposedly normal teenage guy being able to stay calm and take care of himself in a different world is completely stupid.
It's a shame since some ideas are cool but the authors always seem to give poor to no backstories which turns all their characters into generic self-inserts.
