Got this weak craptop for dirt cheap a few years back. After a bit of messing about, getting rid of Win8 and updating the drivers I ended up with two GPUs.
Now, pre-2005 vidya works well enough, so it didn't really matter much. But I've grown weary of this constant reminder of how technologically inept I am.
So uh, what do? Do I just kill the imposter in device manager?

What does it say on your laptop specsheet? Model number?

Here's the specs. Seems to be an HP model 15-d000sr, according to the label on the bottom.
Well then, disabling either of the two gpus I supposedly have causes it to revert into that built-in VGA chip thing, you know the one. Puny memory and 800x600 resolution by default.
Rebooting with either one disabled made no difference.
Rebooting with both enabled brought everything back to normal.

Oh for fuck's sake.
You've got the ATI version of Optimus.
Leave it the fuck alone; this behaviour is by design. GPUs of that era were either fast (by laptop standards) or efficient, not both, so laptops came with two GPUs and only switched on the fast one when it was needed.

Funny that.

Well then. Disregard me, I'm retarded.
Thanks.
