Replaced my 768 display with a 1080p one but everything (boot screen onwards) is tinged red and everything looks shitty.
External monitor plugged into hdmi is fine and old display back is fine so I don't think it's gpu or cable.
Is this just a DOA display or am I missing some settings?
Pic related - this screen is normally black.

Probably need a cable specific to that panel.
Also check if your motherboard has a super-secret BIOS menu.

Thanks man. Any particular setting I should be looking for in the bios, if there is one

update all drivers

Google "<your laptop> hidden bios menu". On a lot of HPs it's shift-f10, but for many ACERs you need to write a byte into the CMOS to enable it.
From there-on it's highly manufacturer-specific, and there'll be loads of options you can use to brick your laptop, for example telling it it has a different GPU.

I am partial to a bit of bricking

you bought the wrong one.
