I want to introduce my friend to mecha anime, but I can't think of anything he might like right off the bat.
His favorite anime is Naruto, so I want to show him something similar but I can't think of anything.
Pic related since Tobikage's the closest thing I can think of since it and Naruto are both anime by Pierrott about ninja trios, but even then only 15 episodes are subbed and there's no way in hell I'm showing him the Ninja Robots dub.
Gundam 00 is good for beginners

Gurren Lagann and Code Geass.
Robotech is good
maybe not for beginners cuz' it's too old
but great.

This is all you need to start

>only 15 episodes are subbed
Its completely subbed if you count the HK subs.

Thanks. Gurren Lagann's my favorite mecha series, and normally I recommend it to others interested in the genre. I was asking based on my friend's interest in Naruto. While he also likes Transformers, it's mostly the more recent stuff so I don't know if he'll like the Braves series.

Robotech IS on Netflix, so I could show him that and then transition him into Macross when I feel he's ready.

I'm not a really big fan of HK subs and I don't think my friend would appreciate it. Can't find subs for episodes 16-20 anyway, unless they're able to be torrented somewhere or something.

FLCL and Evangelion are also good choices

Nice, I have FLCL on Blu-Ray so I could show him that. With EVA, I want to show him the original show first but that's kinda hard to find.
He might remember IGPX from when it was on Toonami since that aired alongside Naruto, how does that hold up?
