Could anyone help a college student taking basic percentage math with his homework? I'll start with this:
The number of CDs sold in 2010 was 114 million, down from 147 million the previous year. Find the percent decrease.
A.(114 - 147)/147 = -33/147 = -22.4%
B.(114 - 147)/114 = -33/114 = -28.9%
C.114/147 = 77.6
D.147/114 = 1.3%
In case you want to directly help me do it, rather than tediously going back and forth on /wsr/, my discord is Tearling#5498
Pic unrelated

How old are you?

18

Do you have any idea how to start this problem?
>>319485
This specific problem, the answer by guess would be A. But I'm not sure how to work it.

Percentages are proportions. Ask yourself this, which year is the question asking you to base the decrease on?
>>319490
2009, 147 perhaps?
>>319486
It's A, and the answer you provided tells you explicitly how to work it out
(new - original) / original, then it's that number represented as a percentage, negative indicating decrease and positive indicating an increase

Ah, makes sense. Thanks for the help.
Any advice on this one?

d, you don't know the scale

Indeed, B was correct. About to complete the assignment. Thanks for the help.
