I'm British and want to see what American nightly local news is like. I don't really care whereabouts, can someone find me a recent video I can download or stream? Just a normal mundane day's worth of local news.

You won't find this. There isn't enough interesting local news to have a full 30min shows worth.
Local stories are usually only allotted like 5 minutes, and that's really only if they contain murder.

There's plenty of newspapers, but not many news stations with local news. Try the Portland Press Herald if you want to see what's going on in New England.

New York City has plenty of local news stations but it's not very exciting. Covers some local crime, infrastructure problems, or events.
The local news I've watched forever live streams the broadcasts http://6abc.com/live/ Not sure if it'll work in jolly old England though
Times at the bottom are in EST/EDT

The way most news stations are run in the U.S. are that they're local affiliate stations of one of the big 4 (FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC) and run TV shows during the day. They play the big news around 6pm, then at night, they usually have a segment with the local hosts, including local news and weather, and also a replay of the big news. You can find them by searching the call number (like K___ or W____). From there, you can visit their websites from streaming, or look up archived clips on YouTube.
