what is an anime like Dragon Ball? Not Z but dragon ball. Mainly for the comedy aspect. There is Naturo, Bleach, and One Piece, as well as Hunter x Hunter. Which of these is most like DB? Not DBZ but DB when it was funny.

Seven Deadly Sins is a modern show that has the Dragon Ball Nature.

To be honest, if you want a Dragon Ball like show, you could watch literally any Shonen show from around the same time Dragon Ball came out. Dragon Ball wasn't really all that unique except for Toriyama's art style.

Ranma 1/2, Captain Tsubasa (SPORTS), Space Adventure Cobra (more of a Cowboy Bebop show, but it's an Action Comedy), Lupin the Third, Rurouni Kenshin,
Honoo no Tenkousei (SPOOOORTS), Slayers.
