I have a Windows hp Pavilion I have had for a while. It has recently had power failure at random intervals but now it's total power loss. It hasn't turned on for weeks. The only light that seems to come on is the one that says that it's charging. It just isn't RETAINING the power at all. Any sort of fix or is it a lost cause. All my things are on there. Any and all help is appreciated.
I'd try a heat reflow. Get a hair dryer and blow it into the fan of the PSu for a couple seconds and hit power, see if that gets it going. Try not to melt the shit and if you don't believe me google it.
Otherwise you probably will have to buy a new PSu or new pc all together.

Try swapping in a known good psu.
Do you have another computer you can grab one from?

Oh, it might be. yeah new battery would be a good start.

have you tried another power brick? it might not be able to provide the proper amperage for the battery to charge but it might be able to output the right voltage for the laptop to "know" there is a charger attached
