Hello!
Need help. I had an unmountable boot volume bsod a few weeks ago.
Managed to run chkdsk and it seemingly fixed it, but was still worried about my hd. Then it came back. Same story, but sometimes my computer hangs a little on boot.
Then I decided to check with crystal disk and I see this, "current pending sector count 200" error.
My drive is a 4-5 year old WD. It passes the long test in WDs lifeguard tool, sometimes it passes the short one, sometimes not with the error:
"SMART Offline Immediate Command Failure Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) Offline Immediate command failed. This may be due to a media error. It also may be due to a defective connection.

Heres the upper part of the crystal disk list.
Does anyone know whats going on?
It's 2, not 200.
Run HDD regenerator

Is there a free option?

Not really adept at that, to much strange stuff.

It's figuring out how to get it for free or buying a new drive.
There's a chance this drive isn't actually dying and you have two bad sectors as a random occurrence. Keep an eye on your SMART data

What about the bsods I sometimes get on boot then?

It doesn't send magic elves down the SATA cable to polish the platters, anon. Literally all it does is write data over the unreadable sectors so the hard disk is allowed to stop trying to read the data on them and can map a replacement sector over the top.
It's not repairing the drive in any way, or making it any less likely to fail. All it does is move the "2" from "pending sector count" to "reallocated sector count".
