Can anybody translate the script that is on this mug I found? I was told by a friend that it is Japanese that contains Chinese characters, but she was unable to translate it. Thank you!

Japan eats a lot of seafood in general, and they also have it as a side dish for drinking. The modern Japanese word for fish (sakana) actually comes from the word side dish because of how often fish is a side dish for alcohol.
