(Half) joking aside, Iczer-1, Wicked City and Genocyber are all fantastic bloodbaths and are all the perfect length to keep their shock value intact after viewing.

I especially recommend Iczer-1 since it's basically The Thing but with kickass giant robots.

Elfen Lied and Another are both shit, don't bother with them. Unfortunately Japs can't into anime horror that well. Attack on Titan is pretty entry level and has plenty of horror-like scenes, although that's not necessarily the overall tone of the show.

Upon further thought, Serial Experiments Lain might interest you. Again, it's not really a horror anime, but it has a psychological focus that is pretty dark and mind-fucky.

If you were ever into those old black&white Twilight Zone episodes, Death Parade is practically written by the Japanese reincarnation of Rod Serling.

Either way, great story, and good animation, especially from a fairly new studio.

I can agree with Elfen Lied (at the very least, I wouldn't call it horror), but what was wrong with Another? Aside from that one unintentionally comedic scene and the kinda strange adaption choice to [spoiler]give the aunt 2 seiyuus[/spoiler] I though it was really good

I would give Another like a 5/10. It was just good enough to get me to keep watching, hoping something good would happen. The characters weren't interesting or memorable. Despite being a mystery, there was no suspense, and it took forever just to resolve things in an unsatisfying way. They used shock value for the sake of shock value.

Corpse Party is the only good one I've seen so far.

Higurashi is okay, but it gets very boring, as it's just about how many painful deaths can be inflicted upon the same characters over and over.
