I need to do homeworks that involve creating class diagrams, identifying use cases, strengths, weaknesses, requirements, planning lifecycle, and stuff like that. They have to be consistent so I need an idea, and it probably shouldn't be too simple to make it useless. On the other hand, I won't (probably) have to actually develop it, so something harder is fine too. Just give me an idea for software that doesn't sound blatantly useless.

Hyper (the terminal emulator) seems particularly retarded, so it'd make a good study.

Subtitle editor. Its easy and theres a million of them out there so you wont be stuck if you need to write one
