i know this is something that normaly would be on /sci/ but that idea scares me, so please help me

i need to know a few thing about nuclear energy:

-How much nuclear material is used by a standar light water reactor in a year

-how to calculate rads

-how much energy is enerated per year by a LWR

-type of radiation emmited by nuclear fission

I literally know almost nothing about nuclear energy or NPPs but here's what i found that could get you started.

>nuclear material & energy generation
27 tonnes of fuel is needed for a standard 1000MWe nuclear reactor each year
The standard LWR has a generating capacity of 328.4 Gigawatts (idk how to convert to MWe) as of 2009 according to the IAEA
Pressured Water Reactors (type of LWR) produces around 900-1600 MWe

Feel free do do some kind of conversions here or whatever to find out the exact amount needed for a PWR or maybe someone else can do it for you idk

>type of radiation
Sites mainly talked about ionizing radiation being produced from NPPs, which include alpha particles, beta particles, gamma rays, and neutron

I found all of this by basic google searches which mainly led me to different wiki pages and some other organizations sites (just google light water reactor, pressured water reactor, and each of your questions; play around with the wording to get different results). Again I have have no clue what I'm saying here so feel free to look into it yourself based on the info I found above.

-how to calculate rads
Roentgens are calculated by how much R/hr you receive over a period of time. R/hr is calculated by your distance and shielding in between you and a radioactive isotope. By law any member of the public cannot be allowed within an area where they receive more than 2 mR/hr.

Rads are basically the measurement of your absorbed dose which is directly tied to the Roentgens in the air where you are. The standard is, if a room of people were shot with 500 R of radiation, half of them would die. So basically, the amount of shielding in power plants completely protects the public from radiation, only exception would be in the event of a meltdown.

thanks anon but i also need help calcuating how much rads are emited by certain isotopes of plutonium and uranium in a small unit like a kilogram, not really about how much rads someone takes, but also thanks for the help anon

After a few google searches I found these results from Clark University, Health Physics Society, some random webpage so use it how you see fit since I have no clue about any of this shit.

Pu-240 - 0.23
Pu-241 - 104
Pu-242- 0.004
