I'm looking for anime with a depressing/nihilistic tone. Preferably an MC I can relate to.
Texhnolyze is the most depressing anime ever made.

Casshern Sins
Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer
Speed Grapher
Wolf's Rain
If you want to cure your depression then watch Eve no Jikan.

This and Gundam Thunderbolt.
Bokurano.
>>281869
The manga is much better though
A-kite.
Jin-roh.
>>281864
Thunderbolt is laughably trite. If you want a genuinely grim Gundam series, Zeta or Victory are the way to go. Although watching Zeta requires 0079 viewing beforehand.

B-but the soundtrack is cool!
Oyasumi Punpun. it may not perfectly fit your description but read Tokyo Ghoul

Welcome to the N.H.K.

Texhnolyze is heavy to watch and heavy to digest, not just on anime standards, but visual media in general.
Most depressing ever? Can't say, but it's definitely up there on what comes to hopelessness.

Grave of the Fireflies

This Anon's got your back yo.
Try some of these out, also check out Oyasumi Punpun if you want a manga (Welcome to the NHK is also my favorite manga/anime/novel ever please watch it OP.)
The majority of these MCs should be able to relate to you, if not then the side characters will.
Best wishes OP and may the depression consume you! <3

I'm not sure this is what you're asking for, but Koi Kaze fits both depressing and nihilistic and the MC is a jobless neckbeard.
