pretty sude you need a dlna server and not an http server. one of which is plex
>https://www.plex.tv/downloads/
there are plenty other software solutions, and if you are running a somewhat modern version of windows you can even use windows media player network sharing to accomplish the same (dlna)

Enable directory listings and delete your index.html .
For home networking media, you shouldn't be using HTTP anyway, you should be using UPNP/DLNA or SMB/CIFS.

If you're using Windows and Kodi you don't need any new or fancy software at all; just use Windows filesharing.

so kodi comes with samba support now? or was the support for it always there?
>the last time i touched that dlna client it was still called xmbc

you got me wrong.im not trying to connect my home network. there is a server which i maintain is tunneled to a lot of other computers and also to me. the site's resources are not indexed. but my kodi's import system is index based. like it imports ftp server files. but not any site which has no index. but the site im trying to import to my kodi has some resources which is not indexed, so kodi doesn't recognize
