What are some essential programming languages to learn for mobile development?

iOS uses Objective C and Swift

but why do some apps use C++ or sometimes even javascript php.

Because android supports c++ with the NDK to code reuse/high performance shit, and there are visual things you can do with JS. Just learn Java for Android.
