madoka magica, while having generally pretty shitty animation for the characters and real world, has some really cool visuals going when they're fighting witches. also a VERY different take on the magical girl genre

I've never read anything by ANN, at least not consciously. An /m/ friend of mine warned me not to watch it, another friend as well, and on the site I am mostly using it is at an abysmal rank of 6000+, much worse than most hentai.

I didn't, but be forewarned, Aquarion is not a "jump in and expect everything up front", it's one of those slow burn anime.

Dead leaves and mind game are both pretty out there artistically. And since they're movies, you can easily pick one up.
